FYI, I stopped using Baconit the other day. Removed all of its live tiles, disabled the Baconit background task and haven't had a freeze or reset since.

ekud: Charge it fully before? or use until it runs down whatever is in there?

Charge it, then use it. Or use it while it's charging. Try not to let it run completely down. It's bad for modern batteries.

Charge it, then use it. Or use it while it's charging. Try not to let it run completely down. It's bad for modern batteries.

Since you have wireless charger, just top it up all the time while at home.

Just had it freeze once again when synchronising with my computer - I'm going to take it back to Harvey Norman next week to get a replacement. This truly is abysmal and not a single thing has been said by people from Nokia about what appears to be a pretty wide spread issue! I'm wondering whether I'm better off getting a replacement, selling it and just buying an HTC which appears to have less issues.

I doubt a replacement will help since it's probably a software issue. The HTC's have the "portico" update which may make them more stable as the Nokia's don't have it yet. I have a 920 and an 8s. The latter has never frozen, the 920 has once. Not much of a sample size though.

I've installed the Portico update (pulled it off the 'Nokia Care Suite' server) and it still freezes - heck, I was just synchronising my music 5 minutes ago and my handset froze thus I had to do a force soft reset. Maybe I'm spoilt but I never experienced this level of bugginess from either Android or iOS.

What do you use to synchronise your music? I've never tried, I just copy music files using explorer. Is that what you're doing?

I'm using the 'Windows Phone' application (the non-Metro one). The application itself works ok, the phone itself froze and thus as a result the synchronisation froze too.

I have been reading this thread and those on WPCentral for a while now, getting to understand the issues and features of the Lumia 920. I purchased a Lumia 920 RED from Telecom on the day they started selling them. I was surprised they bundled the wireless charging pad with it for free [Great Stuff].

My observations so far:
The Lumia 920 RED is a beautiful device, the screen is excellent and the build quality is plain to see (and feel).
I have not had to do a hard reset (yet).
Setting phone up for 2Degrees was a bit of a pain, because 2Degrees uses the APN 'internet' for internet access, and this is not automatically configured, hence the phone cannot access the internet during its setup phase. Once up, I needed to configure the APN, MMS settings, and also modify the voice mail phone number [Setting a manual number as the default/automatic one was for telecom]
Battery life is great (for me). I take the phone off the wireless charger at 7AM, and it lasts through to midnight easily under normal use. Right now the phone is at 50% charge remaining, that's after 14 hours!!! My background apps are: AccuWeather.com, Battery Stats, My 2Degrees, Nokia Drive+ Beta, NZ Weather. I use push email from Exchange 2010. WiFi enabled. NFC disabled.
You need to install the voice command support, and select English UK as the lanugage, but once done using the voice commands is great. Installing the voice command support does require the phone to reboot (not a bug, just it updates the OS by the look of it).

Applications installed:
Battery Stats: Great application for seeing battery usage with a great 24 hour graph
NZ Weather: Great application for quickly seeing current weather. Don't pin the application [It won't create a live tile], but inside the application pin a regions weather info - I found this creates the correct live tile.
My 2Degrees - Good application for quickly seeing your current balances on the 2 Degrees network.
ConnectMe - Great application for remote desktop access.
Skype

Issues:
Battery Stats application stops launching after a while - simply returns you to the start screen. Uninstalling and reinstalling the application fixes it. Probably a bug in the program, maybe because I pin it to the start screen.
Nokia Drive+ Beta seems to drain the battery - So best used with a car charger I think.

Updates:
I note that Nokia [or is it the carriers!!] have not released the "portico" update for the Lumia 920 yet (outside of the US). Interestingly the firmware IS available from Nokia's repositories via NaviFirm+. So the ROM image has been built, but someone is holding up its release...

IMPORTANT: Nokia is stopping anonymous access to their firmware repositories from February 2013, so I have grabbed the "portico" release for the NZ Telecom Lumia 920 RED phone now, just so that I can flash my phone to it if required. Also I will be able to recover my phone if I should be unfortunate enough to encounter the 'reboot hang' reported in the forums. Haven't been brave enough to flash my phone yet.

ROM Hacking:
Although XDA is making progress in decoding the partitions, a quick look at the full firmware update file reveals a great deal about the way Microsoft has gone about building this OS - Secure, secure, secure. Three secure boot loaders all requiring digitally signed code [SHA256 signatures - so no MD5 collision domain workarounds - Sorry NSA!] Also, the code files used to build the boot loaders has an interesting module "BlowFuses". Smells a bit like the XBOX 360, where they used internal hardware fuses inside of the chips to permanently mark something as an issue. So basically if it detects that you are trying to tamper with it, I suspect they could permanently disable your phone by blowing one of the tamper fuses. Of course it could be something else, like blowing a fuse to prevent the identity of the phone being changed, but I think MS or Nokia has built in tamper switch fuses. Time will tell.

After the last 2 mornings waking up with the phone on the wireless charger requiring a soft reset I decided this morning to give the phone a hard reset to freshen it up as have also been adding and removing apps as I try them. Used the menu option on the phone to do this (not the 3 fingered salute) and the end result phone is now bricked - just sitting on the "NOKIA" logo as if it was starting up.

None of the recommended keypress solutions have done anything other than restart the phone, getting through the Telecom splash screen and on to the Nokia screen where it sits.... and sits....

So am downloading the firmware to reflash the phone... not really what I wanted to be doing today, but better today than tomorrow I guess.

Just out of interest - is there any reason why there is different firmware for the colours? If I was to reflash my black phone with the red firmware what would happen?

I would assume the colour would change the default start screen colour scheme, that's all.

reading on wpcentral would indicate flashing to the new firmware does not reliably fix this issue. Best reported fixes were to turn off wifi/Bluetooth before charging :( having said that I have WiFi on overnight whilst wirelessly charging without issues...

Have just resolved a right pita issue with my 920, it is actually a WP8 issue rather than 920 specific but hey...

For the last couple of days my battery life has been less than ideal, posting photos on Facebook direct from camera roll wasn't working, texting was hit and miss, mostly miss. going into messaging or mail two out of three times just kicked me back to the start screen, then this evening I notice the accounts on the phone are continuously syncing. A quick google and the issue seems to be related to Skype, uninstall Skype and now everything is back to normal.

Root cause of problem.... bought a new win8 tablet on Boxing day, installed Skype, merged existing account with MS acct, thought nothing more about it but Skype on phone was still set up under Skype acct = easily overlooked but critical problem
