freitasm: There's no Nokia Music service in New Zealand. You can use Pandora, Rdio or even the Xbox music service instead.

ok great, thanks for the confirmation. I've been enjoying the Xbox music service, but found the catalogue for NZ music a little limiting for some artists. Was just keen to compare with Nokia.

DuncanMcC:
bobcnz: Portico is back on navifirm, grab it if you haven't already.

The Telecom NZ is under:

Nokia Lumia 920 (RM - 821)  1232.5951.1249.1006

Bob

Never heard of Navifirm until now.  But I think I want it.  It's a Nokia update *tool*?.

Where does one get it?  Hopefully, the Portico update will be self-explanitory from there on.

Cheers,  Duncan.

I'd recommend waiting for the official update if you can

That way you're supported, you will get it Over the Air, it will be an inplace upgrade, you won't have to reinstall all your apps and reset up your start screen tiles and redownload all your mail etc

did you do it yourself or take into Nokia Care?

The Network + update went out a week or 2 ago, not included in Portico

It would be nice when people post about updates to mention if it was offered, if it was manual, if it was through the Phone Update applet in Settings, etc...

Taking Nathan's advice and waiting for the official portico release via phone update.

Comon! Nokia/Microsoft! - Come on! Everyone's waiting, as patiently as possible - putting up with daily reboots, SMS receive time bug - and several other bugs.

The longer I wait, the more I think about ditching my Lumia 920/WP8 and getting one of those nice 5.5" Note II's.

Posted this yesterday to my Twitter:

It happens almost every time I try to use voice commands and need the network access for speech to text.

weird I never saw this one before

I have a Telecom NZ branded handset just like you I believe, running the standard ROM, not updated to Portico yet

What Lang settings do have setup on your phone Mauricio?

Well, after spending hours reading about this 'manual' update on Friday.. I decided that there is NO reason whatsoever to wait for this so called 'official' update. The differences between these two are:

1. Manual update - it will be a clean install, ie your phone will be just like new. If you backup your text msg, settings, once you login to your microsoft account everything including apps will be re-downloaded back to your 'new' phone.

2. 'Official' update - you will not lose your settings /apps but God knows how many more weeks we will have to wait! Rumours said in Q1... Could be February or March!

The fact that it is easy to do it manually, I opt to go ahead and do it. Official update or manual update, you will get the same firmware version! The whole process is much more simpler than flashing android ROM!

That irritating wrong timestamp for text messages is now fixed. Unfortunately, the 'old' messages will still have wrong timestamp.

I am waiting for the automatic update to be offered, just to see how long it takes. I still think Microsoft's customers are the telcos, not the consumers, and therefore we are at the bottom of the chain in terms of "when" updates are released.

As I said before, Windows Phone updates should be like Windows Updates. Every second Tuesday of the month things are released. Unless they involve network stuff, let's gets all the fixes we can.

There's no difference between a Windows Phone and an Android as it is now in terms of updates.

Only difference being nokia chose to release the portico updates for at&t customers first and the customers with unlocked handsets are still waiting.

I agree. Simple search on Google shows that Portico update was ready at least since early December. ATT customers in the US has been receiving this update OTA since then.

One thing to note is Android has 'Nexus' which receive updates directly from Google.

I think the only thing holding some of us back is that we don't know if there is a ROM flash counter which may void our warranty.
I've just sent my red 920 back for a warranty replacement. Resetting it to clear off my data resulted in the bricked condition many people complain about. So I just left it like that and sent it back rather than trying to flash it to get a working device to them only for them to say no to the warranty as it has been flashed.
