Hmmm, N8 does not seem to be interested in Remote Wipe (Exchange 2010). I have a "Wipe Pending" but happily using the N8 without any issue. Making calls, reading outlook data, etc?

Took about 15 mins but it worked as expected, i.e. no confirmation screen, just forced hard reset. Note: the only other remote wipe I tested on Exchange 2003 required the user to press "OK" for the wipe to execute.

Remote Wipe Success

after all this hard resetting I still can't get OVI store to work. I've tried installing OVI store from the OVI desktop and I've tried installing it directly to the phone via Sortware Update but it gets stuck at loading each time. I suspect there is some setting somewhere that does not get cleared with remote wipe. I may experiment with creating a new OVI account?

Hard reset, new OVI account, no change, either a fault with my device or a configuration setting deep in the phone that is not erased by a reset.

I would seriously recommend getting your device serviced at our Care Centre. If you're close enough to Newmarket Auckland to drop it in then you can find it at 435 Khyber Pass Road, otherwise your closest Vodafone store will be able to send it in for you.

What's that likely to cost me (mine is a European paralel import)? In the interim, I'm giving this a try, 177MB over Vodafone may take a while ;-)

Weird. My work colleague's imported N8 social works perfectly. My NZ new one, doesn't. Will wait patiently!

And there are the perils of importing devices, as we discussed earlier in the thread. It won't be covered under warranty and I'm not sure how much the repair will cost. Nokia Care will assess the device and quote you a cost to fix it, however if you decline the repair there will be an assessment fee of ~$45 (don't quote me on that exact figure).

If vodafone would provide the units in black I would have bought one, but that's for another thread, $45 fee sounds fair, I'll bring it down, especially after another classic OVI fail (remove battery!?!?)

So, I was planning on spending some cash to resurrect my N8 and thought to myself, best I do a little more research in case with testing I end up breaking it again. The general consensus on Nokia forums is that ?three finger suicide? has caused my problem (see earlier in this thread where I have performed Volume-Camera-Menu-Power reset), in this forum [Http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/Simple-solution-to-Ovi-Store-prob...] I found this package link to OVI Notifications Support Package [http://betalabs.nokia.com/c?n=17451&t=http%3A%2F%2Fnds2.betalabs.nokia.com%2Freader%2FOvi_Notificati...], I installed this and now I have OVI store again.

Lesson Learned, only use Volume-Camera-Menu-Power as an absolute last resort, i.e. when the phone simply will not start.

Yeah, the three finger code is best as a last resort rather than a standard factory reset. Also note however that with PR1.1 and later that issue of the three finger code breaking inbuilt applications is fixed.

Good to hear you got it fixed. The Ovi Notifications Support Package also installs (or reinstalls, or updates, depending on what's necessary) the Single Sign On libraries (which allow Nokia apps to retain your Ovi login between them rather than making you login each time) which come to think of it would cause issues throughout the device if missing. Good to remember for the future as it could help others as well.

Anyone have Social issues? I get asked to reinstall communities. Which suggests that it's a conflict with another application.
Any thoughts?

Installed OVI Suite update 3.1.1.78 today, still no music sync. Still no Phone update so 9 months on teh N8 can still not perform the simple task of creating a calendar entry with invitees. Maybe Nokia have simply abandoned this device?
