Wade: I am struggling to understand why Telecom have locked off 4G and would welcome an explanation, I keep coming back to the thought that it is purely anti competitive behavior? I like many I presume would take my phone and buy a local sim when travelling overseas and if a 4G network was available I would want to have the choice to be able to use it.
Whilst the WP8 update policy in general seems to be far better than Android, it would seem that any carrier customization convolutes the process. The henry ford/steve jobs approach generally seems to be far better for the consumer
I didn't want to twiddle with roms on my 920 but it looks like the best option moving forward is going to be to throw a generic non carrier branded rom on there
My main reason is I hate carrier customized phones especially when it blocks features.
I bought my phone outright why does it need to be locked down, I go overseas every year or two and just use local sim cards and want to use it to its full potential for data if its an option.
reasons I can see for the blocking of 4g would be battery life (face it most people won't know how to set it to 3g/2g only) and it not being available here in nz at the time of the phones release.
I am sure there are many reasons.
I do believe in the Google Nexus and Apple way that carriers should not be in control of updates and the owner of the handset makes the choice of customizations.
