My phone had a sim error problem. Was reset in the telecom store because a sim change did not resolve the problem. After half an hour waiting for the reset they called tech support who said whist a reset taking "a significant length of time" was not normal but it was possible, and was not itself indicative of an under lying fault. The reset took 2.5 hours to finally complete and I have had no further issues with the phone. I have heard of a number of people who have reset their Lumia and it took them an hour to an hour and a half, so whilst not normal it is not impossible.

Resets can take as long as 3 hours, sometimes even longer on the Lumia. God knows why, but don't panic to much yet if its still like that tonight then its possibly time to panic :-D

Well its been running for 4 hours now with no change so time for plan 'B', will load up the unbranded AU rom and give that a spin.

It's rather ironic I have had a pretty much faultless experience with the 920 up until such time as I updated (via OTA not forced) to portico. Phone now runs hotter, battery life seems to be reduced and I have had a couple of instances where the lockscreen has gone haywire (swipes away but doesn't reveal keypad foe pincode

nathan: Sounds like you're having a real bad time of it there with that phone

go back to the retailer and demand a replacement since the repair didn't work and your phone isn't 'fit for purpose'

Nokia said they'll contact me back - I'm hoping that they can give me a replacement; if they have a Yellow or Red then I'm happy with either colour to be perfectly frank. If I don't hear back from Nokia by Thursday I'm going to head into Harvey Norman and say just that - the phone isn't fit for purpose, the problems still remain, I want a refund.

This avo I pulled the phone out of my pocket when it rang and had a yak etc. Noticed it was quite hot. Then noticed it had 30% battery left. Put it on USB on PC, and after five minutes it's actually gone *down* to 29%.
Rebooted it. Moved it to the power adaptor charger. Ten minutes later (now] and it's at 26%. And it's *really* hot. (Checked background running apps, all the same, not much happenning, most turned off]

What to do????

I'd say let the battery die fully and then see if it'll charge from zero. I had something similar happen with my old Xperia S. Doing that fixed it.

I'd say let the battery die fully and then see if it'll charge from zero. I had something similar happen with my old Xperia S. Doing that fixed it.

Disconnected from charger, turned off 3G. *Seems* to not be running hot (I'm impatient and didn't really give the test of enough time! :) . Toggled back on now, and will let it run flat.

Turn off then do a soft reset (hold power and Vol - buttons together until it turns back on and vibrates once). If it is a one off rogue process this should fix the issue.

Taa. Done (used Vol up) and Power. Vol up or down button??? - or doesn't matter?

Update on my reset issue.....

Phone was running for maybe 4 or 5 hours with SCOD (spinning cogs of death :P), by this time I had already pulled sim out and put in my spare phone (half a day on a dumb phone is an eye opener that's for sure, arghh). I downloaded the unbranded AU/NZ rom and followed the process as per walkthrough on WPCentral, took literally a few minutes, FW installed, phone rebooted all good to go. Soon realized the store wasn't working (could see and select apps but installing got half way than crashed with a try again later message), pulled my hair out for a few hours while trying to find a solution, finally gave up and fingers crossed did another phone reset, this time the process took literally 3 or 4 minutes to reset, and once set up I was able to download apps from the store again... phew!!!

On my web travels I did find some discussion regarding the locking off of LTE services, this is not a telecom only issue, it seems most networks without LTE have opted to have the functionality switched off and as LTE becomes available the networks are able to authorize an OTA update to enable 4G/LTE functionality. Sucks if you bought a phone outright from Telecom to use on VF but no drama for Telecom users, a simple solution awaits.

Mines just gone back today - started a "Reset your phone" at 9:30 yesterday morning... over 24 hours later still just the cogs turning on the screen... Thats with the Portico update on it!!

The phone grew cold in my pocket - that can only mean one thing. I tried powering, and I got the Telecom logo, then the battery meter with a wee red bar at left, and then it went blank.
Good, it's pretty flat.
On charge now, Telecom logo again, battery meter again and then blank.
Just a little warm at the top of the phone, normal I'd say - on charge, but hasn't started up yet - been about ten minutes so far.

Download Battery Sense from App store, this will give you a visual indication regarding state of charge/discharge, plus retain some usage history, it also has a high discharge warning feature built in which might be useful should you run into problems in the future

Mine was with Portico update installed too... You should have given reflashing it yourself a go, is a fairly bulletproof process and takes a few minutes (once rom downloaded), you might be without your phone for days for them to do the same process :(
