I have faced Nokia Lumia 920 phone heating issue. Nokia support were quite friendly but nobody seemed to know the real cause of heating. Also the phone was using too much data.

I superficially checked everything and realised that phone started heating only after installing the apps. Finally in the phone settings, I blocked two apps running in the background; Nokia City Lens and Nokia Drive+ Beta.

Heating problem has not re-occured and my data consumption is back to normal now.

Nokia got in contact with me via Facebook and now they want me to send it away to them directly - I stated abundantly clear I want it replaced not repaired; and I want to be either yellow or red just to be darn sure that they aren't going to shaft me around as Telegistics did by claiming they tested the hardware and yet when I received it back it crashed three times in 2 hours. For a 'premium phone' the service received so far from Nokia has been far from premium - maybe this is a lesson to me next time that I should stick with the sub $500 phones as to avoid a fiasco like this again.

DuncanMcC: My background running apps... Run the MAP

You might consider stopping "Run the MAP" from running in the background.  Anything that uses the GPS tends to eat through battery very quickly...

I need and use that one.  Pretty sure it only runs in the background when in use, but phone locked (can't be sure of course).  I do know that if I turn it off, and then use it and lock the phone, it fails to record properly (one run down the drain :( ).  So I'm happy to leave it on.

I have noted the GPS icon goes on when doing lots of things on the phone, but consider that normal - just testing now, and indeed if I go into "Me" the GPS icon goes on (Run the Map blocked), so it's not RTM doing that.

Cheers,  Duncan.

The GPS will fire frequently if you have Settings | Find my phone set to save phone's location. It will fire when you go into Me if the Settings | People | Use my location is on to "let you find nearby places and check in".

After months waiting for Portico, here we go again Nokia says more updates coming.

As part of Nokia’s continuous development practice, we will be introducing new software updates for Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820. This software, version 1232.5957.1308.00xx, includes further performance and stability improvements, enhancements to display stability during a call, and improved automatic display brightness adjustment.

Please note: Availability and timing of the update is region dependent and to contact your local Nokia Care team for more information.

Yes, but we don't have new ones. We have old one. This means we have to wait. Again.

Right, this hasn't rolled out OTA anywhere, so everyone is "waiting"

it's just on some new devices that are rolling off the manufacturing line

Seems like a minor update, do you actually have any of the symptoms this update improves? I know that I don't

- "further performance and stability improvements, enhancements to display stability during a call, and improved automatic display brightness adjustment"

if you don't want the carrier to control when you receive the update, flash an unbranded open market Lumia ROM on your phone

Can honestly say i've had no issues with my Lumia. I'm actually pleasantly surprised after all the issues people have had in this thread.

I have to agree, had some issues actually getting it and then a network issue that turned out to have nothing to do with the handset. I certainly prefer it over my old HTC One X, the integration of services never really worked for me on Android.

In terms of updates, it took forever for HTC devices to be updated and based on the roll out rate on the Lumia so far they're not doing to bad in comparison to some of the Android manufactures.
