feelinglost2013: Anyone know whether you could still use the screen with gloves, if you put on a screen protector?

In the "Display & Touch" settings it mentions being able to use gloves when on "High Sensitivity".  In practice, I find that the touch screen responds when my finger is still several mm away, so I don't think using a screen protector would cause any problems.  In saying that, I can't understand why anyone would bother when the screen uses Corning Gorilla Glass 2.  Your biggest worry is dropping the phone and cracking the glass, rather than any possibility of scratches.

I love the way all the reponses on this phone are so fluid.  There is no lag at all, and text or pictures scroll so smoothly it's amazing.  The battery life is outstanding too.  After hammering it all day yesterday, I still had 40% charge left before putting it on charge overnight.

My phone arrived in Auckland today and has been finally released by customs and cleared for delivery. Should have it tomorrow in my hands :-)

Phone got delivered at work in afternoon today. Below is a colour comparison photo. Wife will get her Yellow Lumia 720 back today. I like the gloss on the white. Makes it less slippery but a finger print magnet. Still prefer the Yellow colour personally.

I'm very pleased with my Red 720.  It has a matte finish which is great, as I can't abide glossy devices which get covered in fingerprints.  The Gorilla Glass is very easy to wipe clean.

This morning my wife and I watched the Geeksphere.tv podcast which is on the GZ news page.  She still has a dumb phone and won't even TXT, but she was impressed at the clarity of the screen, and the quality of the sound from such a small device.  After watching that 33 minute video with the sound pretty much cranked up to full, the battery was still at 96%.  Pretty amazing compared to my Motorola flip-phone which would flatten its battery after playing just one hour of audio.

The GPS Satellite app is excellent too.  It has the most up to date satellite photos of our area.  Google Earth is still 9 years out of date whereas the GPS app has photos that are less than a year old.

Yeah hope so, I had a transformer prime with gorilla glass, and it had a couple of scratches over the past year. We'll see how the screen protector goes.

Loving the navigation too! Never afraid of getting lost while out on a drive. The first time I used it on a drive on a delivery I was so surprised at how quick it locked on. Then there's another feature that my pops discovered, that allows you track where your phone's at. Haven't tried it myself but he says you can actually lock it directly from the windows phone website (provided the phone's turned on)

Pretty amazing that Nokia's the only mobile phone brand that's possessing this type of capability. Most people don't factor the GPS it into the equation, but I think it's a huge feature that gets overlooked.

We're about to go on a long drive tomorrow, around 200km so it will be interesting to try out the Drive app.  I too was surprised how quickly it locked on to the satellites -- far faster than my Garmin handheld GPS!

Loving the maps app.  Off to Napier tomorrow, so will try it out from Wellington.

Have also installed Wellington Trains App as daughter catches the train for boarding school (weekly boarder) in Wairarapa, as well as uses the trains when she is home.

This app is great and have to mention it was developed by a GZ member!!! Cool

I am keen on looking for a screen protector as well as a case for my phone - but there doesn't seem to be a lot of options available. I guess I'll be limited to importing from overseas.

I don't see why it wouldn't.  The 720 covers all bands used in NZ for 3G or GSM as you can see from the specs here:

I did that via WiFi at home, but noticed that when on the road with 3G data switched on, each time I started Nokia Maps, it warned me that "extra cost may be involved for using data abroad", or words to that effect.  I needed to tap OK, before it let me into the app.  Not a biggie, but just wondering why it does that.  Perhaps it's because I'm roaming on Vodafone's network as a 2degrees customer?

I have ordered one of these and it should arrive today:

After using my phone for almost a week, I am convinced that there is no need for a screen protector, so long as you don't put it in a pocket with your keys, or other sharp objects.  A padded leather case such as referenced above offers the best protection from being dropped or impacted.  The matte plastic case on the back of the 720 doesn't show any marks at all, but obviously it wouldn't be a good idea to leave it rattling around in a cupholder whilst on long drives.  So I think the leather case will work well, allowing me to slide the phone out when using it.

Looks like the successor to the 620 is on it's way...
