Navman was a New Zealand company, founded and based in Auckland. Two years ago Brunswick bought Navman, and a couple of months ago they sold Navman to Mitac (the Pocket PC and other electronics manufacturer based in Taiwan).

So, the company is completely based in New Zealand, and it was once a 100% New Zealand owned and operated. It's now a Taiwan company, based here.

*update, You are safe to upgrade... flase alarm.. here why.....

It turns out my phone was NOT of Chinese origin but actually from the Phillipines. (no wonder the keypad did not have PinYin)

Obviously the shop had done a "reflash" prior to purchase probably by using the "nemesis trick" as the productcode internally was different to that on the back!!!!!

I have relaoded the phone back to "Spec" with the original productcode and it's back to normal. Phew!

As always.. BUYER BEWARE as this appears to be a common "Practice" with these here but mine is ok now at least.

I have reset the prodcode to default and reset the phone entirely including fully resetting the software, it did not brick which is a releif, Now I need to give it a good testing out.

I can also use GSM/3g mobile data for "internet tel" again which the Euro could not.

I've upgraded both mine and my Fiance's without incident. Only improvements post-upgrade.

Although your experience is regretable, its clearly not the norm, nearly everyone else here has upgraded and its all good, so perhaps toning down your warnings a little would be in order? I've heard that Nokia Malaysia are nice to deal with on their support line, perhaps they can point you in the direction of something like a Nokia Service Centre here in New Zealand to sort your issues out? The distinct minority of people who have experienced problems elsewhere have had good results doing this.

We can immediatly forget the "Nokia authorised service centre" here. They are known to be extraordanarily slack and often have sloppy repair work.

I have successfully updated the software to the correct product code and so far, so good,

The same bugs and omissions remain though the insessant crashing problem appears to have gone away and it's faster again thank goodness.

I have few questions I hope someone can answer or give a good advice:

1. Where can I change the GPS coordinates' format in the menu? I need to enter coordinates in this format: 6443728 E and 2796376 N

2. Can someone suggest a good car holder for the N95? And where can I buy it? (not necessary Nokia)

Looks like the N95 has finally been released in NZ, I saw one at Sylvia park mall tonight, had a quick play, Vodafone firmware... ew....

Sadly, I never manged to test if the SIP settings are locked back, drat....
I also forgot to ask the selling price.... DOH!

The phone has the same maps (the limited 5Meg ones) that I have installed on mine, Groan...
It has a LIVE! button.. EW! and the "internet" is replaced with a Vodafone LIVE auto-connect, No option to go to url, connect to Wlan etc that springs up.

Mine is working GREAT now though I'd like to change the Languages, Philli/Indo are rather useless to me......

The selling price is $1500 as far as I know and the only way to change the language is to change the product code to the region that has the languages that you want, then update the firmware.

Just so you know, I wanted French, so I picked EURO 1 which offered French.

Apparently, the new maps are coming out next year as posted by "Aloha", obviouslly I hope sooner than that seeing as if people are going to be buying the phone from Vodafone, the maps should be good when they are paying the amount that they are.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!

How can I enter these coordinates: GPS Easting 2711061, GPS Northing 6375078 ?
It seems totally different format what the GPS application uses.

(I am not that good with GPS...yet)

I had a fairly good look around the GPS app on the N95 and I dont think you can change the settings, I think you will have to change your data to Lat/Long externally.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Have a look here if you just want to convert a just a few UTM co-ordinates but could be a bit tedious if you have lots to do. What data set are you using that is in UTM?
