I've had issues with the maps too. It wont find an address for me unless its connected to the internet which is a real pain.

can anyone let me kno how to use the maps on the n97 including navigation as well and is it free??

Maps are free but navigation is going to cost you - you can pay monthly, 6 monthly or annually.

You can find out where you are for free though via GPS.

Thanks TheBartender for the link to N-Gage. I will download it tonight. Been waiting for it to be available for my phone but no luck via the SW Updater.

I have an issue with version 4 of Opera Mini. It's been working great up until around a week ago. I can still surf the net using my home wifi but when I am out, it just won't load any website and it doesn't ask me to choose an access point. I haven't changed any settings.

Using the default browser everything is working fine. Has anyone had this problem?

No idea about your Opera issue, I don't use Opera myself...yet.

The N-Gage works fine...just the complaints that are already known and reported...
- Games play in 4x3 rather than widescreen, so do not use all/take advantage of all N97 real estate...
- N-Gage is a memory hog...requires me to shut down my background apps (gravity) in order to work, otherwise reports error 'not enough memory'
- Games currently lack any touchscreen or Accelerometer support...gay.

But othewise, it works fine...support for the missing above mentioned features will come with time I am sure.

Could the lack of widescreen in N-Gage be because it isn't the official version for the N97? That is silly for Nokia to release it half-baked.

Im posting from my N97. Shame that I loose my NZ flag when I do this.

Yes music is of good quality. I watch movies quite comfortably on it too.

No, its the official update for the N97...
It has been widely reported, as many games were designed for the basic old square screens that 99% of mobiles have....all this N-Gage update does is make the N-Gage app and those games work...it has not changed the games to best suit the N97 widescreen...thats up to the game app developers.

WOAH!

My performance increase in my N97 is astonishing!
It is racing now, really snappy UI...

I have finally taken the plunge and gone with a hard reset, and I am atempting to apply everything I have learnt in the last month or so, in regards of performance increases and not repeating mistakes I made previously...

Will post back my results, if I recommend this process, but so far, the results are amazing!

Ok....

I have now formated my mass media drive, and redone the had reset for good measure...all apps I had origianlly installed on the Mass Memory drive are now gone.
File manager says I now have 56.6MB free space phone memory, and 29.8GB free space Mass Memory.

Quie interesting, having formated the Mass Memory drive, the only folders lef, are:
- data
- Games
- Images
- Installed files
- Other
- Sound files
- Video files

Much tidier and simpler than the raft of folders that were in there previously.

The only installed app left in the Application Manager, is the Ovi Sore...all the rest I have removed and will add manually, installing on the Mass Memory where possible.

This thing is now so fast...I also don't want to install anything now lol

hmmmm... how slow did your n97 use to be? Also what is the hard reset method?

I was not really bad slow...but some transiion effects like the home screen was not snappy....its now instant...opening menus instant...there is a huge difference (on mine anyhow)

As for the rese code...I have been trying to post them here, but Geekzone wont allow me, 'bad words' included in my post

I know....I wasnt stating that I was not going to install apps, just that its running so fast and smooth I would hate to slow it back down again...

I have now installed everyhing I use and like for now...and she is still running mint.
I am a happy chappy.

Although, I still have to:
- Properly sync files...
- Sync Ovi contacts...
- Connect to wifi and mess with those settings...

See how she is responding after I finish with all that.

This is what I have done so far:
Steps to a fast, snappy, error free N97:
1) Hard reset the phone (restores back to as new, with network opertor settings still included, retains latest firmware)
2) Format the Mass Memory drive, remove/uninstall all programs installed there previously
3) Go to Ovi Store, go to Options, Account, Settings, Installaion preferences: set both feilds to Memory card E and save.
4) In the apps menu, go to Messaging, Options, Setings, Other: set 'Memory in use' to E: Mass memory.
5) Re-install any new apps on the Mass Memory drive, where ever possible.

Can't have it both ways - if you want the Maps app to hold all the countries/worlds addresses then I think you're going to have some SERIOUS memory issues!

If you want that ability buy a TomTom/Navman/Garmin etc

Bartender - courious - what are your free memory stats before and after (or just the after). I've done the uninstall all Apps and reinstall onto Mass Memory which I agree made a big difference, just wondering if its worth my time to do the full reset...

Also much trouble with crashing afterwards? My phone still seems to struggle with some apps requiring total battery out reboots at times but then it runs fine bouncing in and out of apps for days at a time only to start giving me grief again!
