I'm in for one of these when they arrive!

I will probably still go for the 920.

1) Prefer IPS over AMOLED (hate the blue hue).
2) Polycarbonate is better than standard plastic / aluminium.

Call this a silly question but if you are into photography enough to want a 41 mega-pix wouldn't it be better to get a dedicated camera with a bigger aperture and the ability to swap lenses?

Sure I like having a camera always in my pocket that is mostly for quick snaps. The serious photographers I know want to do things like long exposure with tripod mounts and stuff like that, not really practical with a phone.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

I doubt it replaces a DSLR, but certainly a great substitute for a point n shoot device.

Am sure those who enjoy photography would love to have this for those times they don't want to lug around 3 lenses , 2 bodies and all manner of spares.

yeah, its having a much higher quality camera in a smartphone, that you carry around everywhere with you, not replacing a DSLR

Oh, I'm definitely wanting the pint and shoot style device purely for my family shots, I have two young kids and take heaps of shots on the go, in the house, you name it.

Perfect device for me. Will give the 920 to the wife.

I imagine this would appeal to adventurous tourists who want to travel light with one device that can take great photos in a nightclub or on a mountain top

(as opposed to those tourists who are so determined to carry only one device that they feel no shame at taking snaps with an iPad - I cringe every time I see them)

BTW "pint and shoot" produces interesting angles and blur effects in my experience

A time-poor geek is hardly a geek at all

Given that the 920's 8MP camera seems to surpass pretty much all other 8MP smartphone cameras I doubt there will be anything that can even come close to the 1020's 41MP jobbie, can't see me going to this but could be an ideal iphone replacement for the wife

I think its great since this is probably the first smartphone that can replace my compact camera. Of course its not the same as having a DSLR, so sometimes I will lug that around. But honestly I am finding I use my DSLR less and less these days even with an 8MP phone camera

So next we need to know if these are going to show up early and out of the blue at Telecom like the 920 did, or are they going to be an import-only option for a few months like everything else.

I'd definitely buy this on impulse like I did the 920, but if it took months, then I'd probably wait for whatever the next iteration is.

If they are US$299 subsidized on AT&T on a 24 month contract then they'll have a out of this world retail price in NZ..

They're meant to be just over US $600 off contract at Microsoft stores.. that would be fine, but we'll have to see if it pans out.

If the 925 is going to replace the 920, it will be at a similar price point so the 1020 will have to have some form of premium attached to it so north of $1k would be a good start here in NZ i guess

I had the nokia 808 which was the 41 megapixel mobile but it took way worse quality pictures than my Galaxy s3.
Now my Nokia 920 takes better pictures than my S4...
