I've got Bing news and CNN on my Lumia 1520, both have live tile enabled. However, the tiles for these apps only show the static logos. I've tried restarting the phone and reinstalling the apps without any success. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks!

Make sure you have 22 or less apps listed in Background Tasks under settings, applications

Also make sure that under Data Sense app settings, 'Restrict background data' is turned OFF.

Hi guys thanks for your advice. I have checked my phone settings, there are 18 apps running in the b/g and the 'restrict b/g data' option is disabled. However, Bing News still has only got an icon on its tile. (CNN's live tile began working after a while). Also some other apps that I downloaded today that claim to have live tile are only displaying icons (when in wide size)...frown

----------------------------------------

BTW I double checked the list of background tasks and curiously enough the apps whose live tiles are not working are also not in that list. I noticed at the end of the list that Bing News was blocked. So I tried to unblock it by ticking the box next to "turn background tasks back on for this app the next time I open it". And I opened it. But then again nothing happened. The live tile is still dead. Any idea what the problem is?

Also does anyone know if there's a way I can add apps that are not on the background task list to the list?

Try uninstalling and re-installing the apps in question again and open them at least once. See if the live tile option runs for them.

Just so you know, live tiles at present are only update once every 30 minutes in Windows Phone 8. This will change to once every minute with Windows Phone 8.1

So you have less than 22 apps in that list or not? Doesn't matter if they are blocked or not.

I had 18 apps in total on that list. But it doesn't matter any more because I have given up and deleted Bing News. CNN makes a good enough substitute. smile
