I remember when broadband in NZ only offered 512MB or 1GB data back in 1999 and it was expensive. Buying more data was expensive. It's 2013. I have a 150GB data cap on VDSL2 and I pay $125/month. When i get fibre next month, my price will drop to $100 and that will include 300GB data. Someone has to make the push for change to happen.

LMAO... I've got 35mbit cable and have watched fable 3 (5.8g) take so long to download my 360 nearly switched off... Now waiting for the 3 gig of battlefield MW3 dlc/updates. Will try and play tomorrow I 'spose.
I'm in aussie BTW, probably got MS server faster/closer than NZ. Takes less time to install a disc a a friends house.

Tell me how good "game sharing" is over xmas....

And I still haven't seen any switching between 2 running games.

I ALSO have VDSL2, capable of 70Mbit, and I have seen my Xbox 360 download a music video which was 120MB in 1 hours 20 minutes (Via Ethernet). This sadly is far more common than the other way around. I have seen content download quickly, but never quickly enough to wait for a game to download before playing and never ever faster than loading from a disk or USB Stick. Usually if I download content (and this isn't an Anti Xbox or MS Rant specifically since the same thing is true of my PS3, and I'll likely buy both consoles, as I did with the current generation), I do so DAYS before I want to use it.

MS need to go back to the days where they listened to the feedback they get on a product BEFORE they released it. For a good long while MS was great with that, now not so much if at all.

They need to forgo the requirement of 24 hourly piracy checks in favour of something less arduous.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I don't own it, but surely Battlefield 3 connects to Origin not Steam.

And for the record I think the prices are so high because MS and Sony are greedy not because of physical media or the used game market.

EA runs Origin which also does BF3 so you are correct. I think you can still add it to Steam though but the key activation will most likely needs to be done via Origin. Either way though, which ever company you use to activate the key, it's tied for good. Microsoft and Sony are just as greedy as Steam.

Think about it logically.

If you are a developer or publisher, would you not supply cheaper content to Steam or Origin knowing that your games cannot be re-sold on those networks vs Xbox or PS where currently a used games market exists. Every customer who wishes to play your game on PC is a paying customer for you. Every used game sold on consoles, is money for the guy selling it and $0 for the developer/publisher. Developers and Publishers do supply cheaper content to Steam for this reason. Once a game is released on Steam, after few months it's available for dirt cheap. Not the case with console gaming.

Some interesting reads but the last line in your first link says it all really. "It's a big if. But one that could well determine the success or failure of the next generation of consoles." I just think if they really and truly wanted to kill the used game market they could have followed Steam's path and done exactly that with the current generation to the point that the next gen consoles could have been completely discless making it more likely that people might also start using their music and video services as well. A missed opportunity I say.

Xbox Engineer explains DRM and Xbox One intentions

I just stumbled upon this post and found it a rather compelling read. Who know's if its true, take it with a grain of salt but its a good arguement. Its nothing that hasn't really been discussed already, people were comparing xbone to steam and this guy has basically confirmed thats Microsofts intention.

I had preordered a PS4, i was firmly placed in the Anti MS camp after all the announcements but having read that article and thinking about it, im not so sure now. Maybe just maybe Microsoft arn't the bad guys they are made out to be.

Interesting. I can see that too.

So, Xbox One games will be say half the PS4 price or less? if so the article is right. Need to see at release date, yes release date when you can buy the game at the much lower cost.

Competiton is good, for us.

The thing is though, even release date prices on steam aren't hugely discounted. They're actually usually a pretty similar price. The thing they target are the discounts a couple of months down the track and the big sales they have.

Hmm, so they cash in at popular sales time "I want this game now" and then discount it later? Most games are like that, (albeit more later) so unless a gamer wants to wait for the latest and greatest games, for a while, they will pay a similar price. Ok, That dilutes the article somewhat. If they are getting full licence fees, as no games are being pirated/secondhand/loaned, etc then they should price at their business model on day one and all days. You could argue that they are getting a fair margin (on their new DRM model) plus the extra margin that is arguably due to PC/Sony pricing as they dont use a secure DRM model and have that extra margin to cover lost sales.

Another good bit of Xbox One is that all mutliplayer games MUST have dedicated servers support. No more rage quits from hosts or in game lag due to someone else poor speed. This is another HUGE.

That'll be handy when you want to play BF4 in 2 years time but the publisher/ms have taken the servers down because only 20,000 people want to play and 2 million want to play something else.

Do you know how long they will run them for? Because you expect them to shut them down after 2 years without providing anything to back it up with. I expect them to leave them running until the demand drops right down. Microsoft shut off the original Xbox server's for live services which launched in 2002 in 2010. 8 years. looks like a good track record to me.

Whats the real time game issues for PS3 users? Always bad? Often good?
