nzkiwiman:
My lunchtime walk and two lures have not yet been helpful in obtaining a Ditto
If it's any consolation, nor was mine. Only when I was back at my desk (currently kitchen table) afterwards that I got one.
Wow, the new "nearby" feature has just been deployed in Australia and it sounds terrible, if the comments on Silph Road are anything to go by. If there is a Pokestop anywhere on your map (and it could be a good 5 minute drive away) then the Pokemon at that stop will be all you can see, and your nearby sightings will disappear. This would suck for me because at my house there's a Pokestop too far away to reach on foot (on opposite hill across a creek) that would probably register, but I have lots of spawn points around the house (I'm bordered by 3 reserves) that would no longer be trackable. Basically, it's reducing the tracking ability for many people from being able to see what's near and wandering around aimlessly to find it, to just having to wander around aimlessly with no idea what's out there. You could have a Dragonite 50 metres away and not know it. At least with the old sightings you could run around in the hope of stumbling across it.
On the bright side, Niantic are just trialling it and asking for feedback, so hopefully it'll be improved before we get it.

Got myself a Ditto via the PoGo Plus; was driving to the supermarket and was pressing the button when it lit up.
Checked the phone at the supermarket and saw I had got Ditto - only CP 23 though.
Spent the afternoon at the Dunedin Botanic Gardens getting more Charmander candies, but did not see another Ditto (was manually capturing all Birds/Bats/Rats and Insects just in case)

Thanks for confirming that Ditto can be caught with a PoGO+, I was wondering that.

Got another slightly better Ditto, again via the Plus
According to the dex, I have seen 6 but only caught 2.
Wasted so many balls of various types on manually catching rats/birds/bats in hopes of getting a better CP Ditto ...
I've caught two Ditto's since Friday. First is 512 CP, second only 96 CP. Both from Pidgey's.
I'm up to 5 Ditto now - all from Pidgeys. Are they a limited time thing, or permanently in the game now? I don't want to transfer any unless I know I can get more later (just in case I want to do a 6 Ditto gym battle). Had a really disappointing lure experience on the weekend. My son and I went to Hurstmere Green and lured up all 4 Pokestops, cracked a lucky egg and an incense, and spent the next half an hour spawning almost exclusively Pidgeys and Rattatas. Previously we've caught heaps of good Pokemon there, including a Dragonair and a Scyther, so to get such a crappy selection was very disappointing. The only good spawn was a single Squirtle. We moved to the beach and lured another 2 stops, and while the variety was slightly better, the only decent spawn was a Dodrio. Has anyone else noticed a drop in the quality of lure spawns recently?

I'm pretty sure that Ditto is in the game permanently, it's not a limited time thing.
I very rarely use lures as I don't find they help very much, I certainly don't spend my coins on them.
I only use my lucky eggs when I do a mass evolve, I got 118,000 XP from a mass evolve last night (thanks to the Thanks Giving event and a lucky egg).
Were there many people at Hurstmere Green? I've only been there twice, the first time there were lots of people playing and lots of pokemon popping up, the second time there was just us and very little popping up.
Hurstmere Green has gone completely dead - there were two young boys and us playing on Saturday afternoon. The spawns were terrible. When the game first started it was packed with players, even on very cold and windy days. To be honest, we get better spawns at home, because we have reserves all around us. Since the game started we've caught Gengar, Blastoise, Chansey, Dragonite, Likitung, Snorlax and Gyarados within 100m of the front door. I certainly won't be using my remaining lures anytime soon. Maybe when Gen2 drops.

Looks like a nest migration is due in the next 24 hours (ish) so stock up while you can! I didn't have much work on yesterday so I took a trip to Sunnynook Park to get some last-minute Charmanders. I was there about 45 minutes and caught 8 - they were spawning continuously at the stops dotted all around the park boundary. Going to pop back this afternoon if I have time, because I am still some 45 candies short.

The Dunedin Botanic Gardens has been a Charmander nest since the last migration.
I had walked a Charmander enough to get candies for a full evolution, but got terrible movesets, so used the nest to go from 18 candies to over 500.
Since done two full evolutions and got the same bad movesets. Hopefully a visit today will give me a decent Charmander to evolve again ..
Wow, that nest must really be putting out!

Probably around 15 Charmanders per hour
In the beginning, the Botanic Gardens wasn't a good area to hunt in but changed around the time more spawn spots were added in (and mostly around PokeStops and Gyms)
Based on past timings, the nests should change today; hopefully local nests get something decent
