Overpriced storage/expansion is just part of the game with consoles these days, unfortunately.

In the same way that they'd regularly just up the hard drive size instead of cutting the price with the (soon to be) last gen consoles. 

A propitiatory connector just plays into that.

It’s actually quite a bit smaller than the One X - a fraction taller, but narrower and not nearly as deep. I don’t think the completely rectangular box approach looks quite as good as the One X or One X before it, but that’s just my preference. Still a good looking box!

Series-S is honestly the bigger news here. Its an amazing deal. IF. You dont care or want 4k, a 4k UHD drive. And only have a 1080p tv and dont plan to upgrade in the next couple of years or just have a limited budget. I say this as a Playstation fan. At this point the only thing Sony has are the 1st party titles. And a lot of those wont be coming out within the two years. Once Spider-Man and Rift Apart come out in the launch window. Its going to look deserted for a while.Mean while. Microsoft are crushing it in every other department. From Specs and Value. If third party devs decide to shift back to xbox as the lead platform Sony have a huge problem. I don't see how they can compete with Series-S. Unless they take a huge loss on the PS5 without a disc drive.

Pretty good deal, $299 USD will probably translate to $500 NZD and I think that will have a fairly broad appeal, especially for those who don't have a fancy 4K TV

 

 

Yes it's hard to fault MS's logic on this - it's a clever move and can't help feeling they have stolen a march on Sony with this - not only with product and pricing but also on timing.

So I'm starting to see the catch 22 with the series-s. Apparently its up to the developers whether or not they upscale their games to 1440p. Even if the console supports it apparently its not going to be mandated. So its possible most games will still run at 1080p despite having the extra hardware. I should have figured there was a catch. It seemed to good to be true. Like your still getting a lot of awesome things with the series-s but whats the point if devs don't take advantage of the hardware even at the lower end? If your still at 1080p you might as well save even more money and just get a One-S. Unless you really wanted the SSD.

Im more interested in the gamepass ultimate deal to get the X straight away. At full price the X would be a stretch I dont want to make right now since my TV is a 4k potato that wouldnt benifit from the X over the S, but since the 24 month finance thing works out slightly cheaper, it is the better option than leaving the X on the credit card for a few months to pay off at full price.

I would be paying the gamepass ultimate monthly anyway, and the only real risk I see is that they release a better or cheaper gamepass and I am stuck on that one for 24 months - not a big deal if that happens.
