In regards to WMP, the last time I ran a cable down the hallway to try the streaming to PS3, I used TVersity (free to use for both PS3 and X360) on my PC, which I found to be better and easier to use than WMP. I know a few others here use it too as a preference.

TVersity looks interesting.

So what content in the PlayStation Store is FREE to download?
And how do you pay for content that isn't free?

Hi, check out this video for upcoming PS3 stuff. This is relevant to NZ as the person being interviewed is Sony NZ. Note the introduction of PlayTV in the August-ish timeframe.

yea kinda like the sims or something. hopefully it'll solve the problems people have been having with online gaming with friends.

sims is exactly what I thought when I saw that video - why would you want to hang around and 'chat' on a game console

They would be much better off implementing an xbox 360 style friends/invite/msn messenger system - probably a hell of a lot easier to do as well!!

Hm in my opinion its Graphics Vs. Gameplay with PS3 being the graphics and X360 being the Gameplay. Although i could be wrong now since PS3 may have released some excelent games.

I love that the PS3 is fully backwards compatible and has a blu-ray DVD player. But I still bought a Xbox 360 mostly as I agree that the gameplay is better on the Xbox 360 and Call of Duty 4 is a wonderful online game. Plus got it from DSE when they discounted it like $180 last year for a weekend. My PS2 is still clunking along and serves a purpose.

In saying that though, I am saving up to get a PS3 ... get the best of both worlds ! I'll be interested to see if their is much of a difference in the GTA game between the consoles. I am assuming the PS3 version will be more "detailed" but am basing that on no actual facts haha

hmm i believe ps3 is no longer backward compatible due to the withdrawal of the 60g model (hardware emulation) and non sale of 80g model (software emulation) that both provide backward compatibility ... the 40g one is not.

you're right, the current ps3 model isn't backwards compatible. also as discussed already in the forum ps3 does not beat out the 360 graphics-wise.

it is clearly stated that for the 40gb console there is no backwards compatibility. if you got a ps1 game working it must be a fluke because only the 60gb was backwards compatible which is now discontinued in australasia.

Careful how you word those sweeping statements.....

PS1 games sold on the Playstation Store do work on any model PS3. Rumour has it that PS2 games will 'soon' be available for download from the Store (but who listens to rumours anyway?).

The 60gb and 80gb were backwards compatible with the PS2 as they used either software or hardware emulation. This was removed in the newer models. However...

Wikipedia: All models include: Blu-ray/DVD/CD drive, HDMI 1.3a, Bluetooth 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, PlayStation backward compatibility through software emulation and a glossy finish.

I'm at work so I can't access the official PS3 sites, but I know that the PS3 is meant to be able to play most PS1 titles with some features like LINK being disabled.
