I guess we were lucky in Dunedin; forecast a week out was rain, and by Saturday it was fine .. went to the Botanic Gardens as normal.
Nest spawns/weather spawns seemed to override Charmander spawns, but that seemed common around the world.
Did get a few 91/93% IVs on normal Charmanders, though I only found out after the event - evolved a stored 93% early in the event to get the exclusive moveset.

I did get another EX pass for next week - its at 1.30 which means I have to have a late lunch that will mess with the schedules just a tad, but I'll make it work.

It does seem a little counter-productive that spawns are better in malls, given Niantic is all about getting people out into nature. I guess it's good for their sponsored areas though. Takapuna is normally good (when it's not raining) because there are two small parks, the entire beachfront, plus three streets of shops that we loop around, and there are heaps of trash spawns in the shops that turn to CD spawns. Interestingly, the park we normally lure has no decent spawns normally, which probably makes it better for CD than other parks. The Takapuna Library is a real hotspot - always loads of the featured Pokemon at that Pokestop.

I saw the news this morning about Alolan Pokemon coming to the game. How random is that? I have a feeling this is how they plan to keep us amused until Go Fest (along with the odd event like Adventure Week). I'm even thinking we might get Alolan Geodude for Adventure Week. I'm actually playing Moon at the moment, but haven't gotten very far into it so I'm not too familiar with the different species. Alolan Ninetales looks beautiful, and hopefully there will be a couple of useful ones in amongst them. Someone suggested Alolan Sandslash could be better than Lapras. Given we don't have a lot of good ice types, it will be an interesting addition.

Thank goodness I did all my housework yesterday. Going to be a big PoGo weekend. I see the event, along with Shiny Ho-oh, lasts across Queen's Birthday weekend as well. Hurrah. I'm going to walk a Legendary, I think. Save my precious rare candy supply.

On my 18th Ho-Oh raid (since the return) I managed to get a shiny and so now my motivation to do anymore is dead

However the three new shinies added for Adventure week continue to elude me - in part because Omanyte and Kabuto seem harder to catch than they should be, so 90% of my encounters when using the GoPlus run. I've still got a week (and hopefully some find days according to the weather forecast) .. I am also focusing most of my efforts into only keeping the Evolve Omanyte or Kabuto tasks for a shiny Aero - so far 0/11

I forgot to take a note of how many I did beforehand - think I'm up to about 13 or 14 so far. No shiny yet. I dearly hope it doesn't take 53 this time. None of the other shinies either. Didn't get an EX pass today for the first time in about 8 weeks, but it was kind of a relief. These weekday raids are very disruptive and I am always freaking out my son's Mewtwo will escape. Plus I am proxying for people and worried I will fail to catch theirs. And last week one of our team forgot to proxy for two people. It's all too stressful, lol.

I managed to get another EX pass, again at the Dunedin Railway Station, so an easy walk from work
The timing of the raid means it will be a late lunch which is doable; unlike today where I have had to swap work shifts with someone.

Currently done 35 research tasks to try and get a shiny Aero; no luck so far.
No luck with getting any other shinies .. getting any of these after the event will be impossible - Omanyte and Kabuto hatch from 5km eggs (the biggest egg pool) and Aerodactyl no longer hatches

Yes, I have had zero luck with the Omanyte and Kabuto shinies. If I don't catch them during this event, it'll have to be from nests or future rock-type events. I did, however, get a shiny Aerodactyl from my 4th (I think) research encounter this morning. One of our raid crew is on 28 and still trying, so I feel very grateful that I had some good luck with that one. My son keeps doing the raids to up his shiny luck as well, after he discovered he could solo them. I really hope he gets one or more. He does have very bad luck in general when it comes to shinies (except during the water event when he got two purple whales). We plan to spend this long weekend raiding like there's no tomorrow, since Ho-oh leaves us next week. I wonder what is coming next? Probably the Regi trio. I hope they either all come at once, or just for a short time each, and that they are potentially shiny, or they will be very boring to do. They are not at all useful (except possibly Regice as a tanky dragon counter) so I can see interest in them waning quickly. People have suggested they might lead into Regigigas and an intro to Gen 4, but I'm not sure we'll get 4 that early, especially with the Alolan forms being released any time now.

Given that Alolan Exeggutor + shiny + regular shiny was just added into the game, I am thinking that he will be a raid boss
Hopefully however they do not make the raid boss the regular version, and make it a random encounter to get the shiny, Alolan and Alolan shiny ..
At least it is an easy solo

I was wrong about Alolan Exeggutor; released in the wild around 1.30pm.

No idea about shiny, or if there is anyway to evolve Exeggcute to get A.Exeggutor

Yup, they're everywhere! So tall that their head doesn't appear on the screen.

LOL, Griffin and I put one in a gym earlier - or, rather, I put one in a gym and he put his shiny Wailord alongside it. There were so many at Glenfield Mall it looked like a grove of palm trees. I'm a bit worried they're going to obliterate our chances of finding shiny Kabuto and Omanyte, though, since they seem to have overridden the event spawns somewhat.

I am already sick of A.Eggy; damn thing is everywhere overriding Adventure Week spawns
If the shiny was released maybe it would be a different story - damn thing just eats Pokeballs .. and I already have several decent regular Eggys (and I can see their head)

Yes, I hope A.Eggy is short-lived. Need my rock-type shinies! Although A.Eggy is extremely good stats-wise. Better than normal eggy. Plus every single one is worth 300 dust, so there's that. I'm catching as many as I can (especially the really big ones) and hoping the boosted spawn rate will be gone by the weekend.

It would seem that A.Eggy was a 48 hour mini event, as by 1pm on Saturday, all traces of the long neck was gone and event spawns returned to normal.

Over the weekend I managed to get a shiny Aerodactyl (research #88), a shiny Kabuto and finally a shiny Aron (#1102 caught, over 1400 encountered). With only a few hours of catching left I don't think I will manage to get a shiny Omanyte, but .. you never know.

This morning I also managed to get yet another EX Pass - on Sunday I was passing and did a Magikarp raid at a known EX spot and .. I guess that was enough. It was the only triggered gym in Dunedin this time around. Sadly I can't make it but have been advised I can pass my phone to someone who will help. I can't recall if that will be the 3rd or 4th week in a row
