My son ended up in hospital yesterday with suspected appendicitis (it wasn't) and caught a shiny Aerodactyl from a quest while there, and a shiny Aron after we got back home. Cheered him up a bit! I've managed one Aerodactyl and one Kabuto, and shiny Ho-oh yesterday, right before my son got sick. My sister is out raiding with his phone to try to get him one before it leaves on Friday. We also got EX passes this morning, after missing out last week. We did so many eligible gyms over the weekend, it was expected that one would put out.

No shinies for me but did get an EX raid pass for Hall Road next Wednesday at 1pm. Will have to take the afternoon off work if I go (life was so much easier when I worked for myself and could nip out at any time for any reason, but now I'm working for the man...)

Total confusion this morning with a second lot of passes going out for next Wednesday. I now have two for 1pm at different gyms (Birkenhead Bowling Club and Kaipatiki Park). Trying to work out logistics so I can attend both and have enough people with me to do both battles.

I swear I saw a rainbow on the map screen a few minutes ago. Then it vanished. Looked like it was coming out of a gym that was further down the road (or maybe it was behind the gym). Is this a new thing?

Yep, a new visual. People suspected things would happen in game when the rainbow was on screen and a specific action was completed, but no one is able to confirm if this is true yet

Yes, I had a few rainbows yesterday. The code for them appeared in the same update that included a huge chunk of code for the Alolan forms, so people are theorising that they will have something to do with being able to evolve a normal Pikachu into an Alolan Raichu, for example.

Argh, the stress! I ended up rushing out to a random raid at lunchtime yesterday, in the bitterly cold wind, in a last-ditch attempt to get my son a shiny Ho-oh. Astonishingly, it worked. He is now the proud owner of a 93% shiny weather-boosted Ho-oh called "Bro-oh" (he loves Barney from How I Met Your Mother). It was his favourite shiny legendary so I am pleased to have caught it for him, but he was still sad he couldn't do it himself. Hopefully he'll be well enough to raid this weekend.

Wooohoo!

I managed to get a 75% shiny Kyogre on my 3rd raid, which took some of the pressure off me.
I'll do a few more here and here looking for a better one, or a perfect regular .. but otherwise I am going to look at doing Croconaw raids as I don't have a decent one to evolve at a pending Community Day (in fact all my 2nd Gen starters need work)

I am REALLY hoping for a new version of the app this week for CD - 0.105.0 introduced an error that causes the GoPlus not to show the arrow above the Pokemon/Stop when a lure/incense is activated
Also causes the Pokemon to stay on screen and for the GoPlus symbol to stay on screen even when connected. I use the Plus on CD day to sweep up no CD spawns ...

Picked up a 100% magikarp from a Quest today.

Still no shiny and very close to 3700 caught.

I am relieved to report that both my son and I got a shiny Kyogre yesterday - at the same raid! It was our 10th overall. I was worried we would run out of time with next weekend's raiding opportunities effectively halved by Community Day, and a pretty dodgy weather forecast for this week. Mine was not good IV but really, with Kyogre's massive attack stat, it makes very little difference to real-world performance. I already have two at L35 and was planning to level a third, so I might just do the shiny because it's pretty. I managed to get enough rare candy to level my 100% Latios to L35 too, which I am pleased about.

I also scored a shiny Karp from a quest this morning. Not amazing IVs but over 82 so that's something. My shiny Gyarados is only 51%.

I'm keen to get to a million stardust. I started at around 580k, spent about 60k getting my Frenzy Plant Venusaur to L30 so I could use it against Kyogre, and now I'm up to 750k. I have two Gardevoir I'd like to take to L35 and I'll want to power up some Smack Down Tyranitars next week.

Aside from Kyogre, no additional shinies so far which is getting frustrating given my potentially limited time with the game next week due to jury duty.
However Shellder does seem to be limited in numbers and not many local players have gotten a shiny version (in fact, shiny numbers across people I know seem to be way down)

The event however is still awesome, so many evolved forms appearing in the wild that I either haven't seen, or haven't seen since Gen 2 arrived .. in fact, even the Kanto event didn't have this much variety.

I am currently trying to figure out how I manage Community Day - I normally turn on the GoPlus to spin stops and catch non CD Pokemon .. however the Niantic have ducked things up and the GoPlus does not show the on screen notification when its locked on to a Pokemon when incense or a lure is running .. with CD days having lures everywhere, it will be a frustrating experience
May have to forgo the Plus and learn how to use the quick catch method

I managed to catch my Mewtwo yesterday. It's my first one and I caught it on my first throw. I'm glad to have that one out of the way, no need to do any more EX raids.

Congrats! Yesterday was insanity, with 13 EX raids. I did two Mewtwo on a lucky egg, which was a novel experience. I have 15 now and a pass for next week, too. At some point, I might have to discard a few, although that seems so very wrong and I might not be able to bring myself to do it.

I'm up to almost 900k stardust, and I haven't even really been trying that hard, with work and my son still recovering from his trip to the hospital last week. I love water types and am really enjoying this event. No shinies for me since the field research Magikarp the other day. My son has had a very good couple of weeks. He got his Aerodactyl and Aron the day he was in hospital, shiny Ho-oh on the Thursday, shiny Kyogre on Sunday, and he's caught two more shiny Wailmer to go with the two he caught when the water wave for Gen 3 came out.

I'm looking forward to Community Day. Still tossing up where to go, but the weather looks reasonably good so probably Takapuna again. I think the spawns at Albany Westfield were a bit better overall, but fewer Pokestops meant resources got a bit tight and we couldn't do as many quests. Afterwards I will inventory my Tyranitars, prune a few, and TM any of my good Bite/Stone Edge to Bite/Crunch.
