updated: ps3 store broken https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib6eEM4pihY

____________

I have had it with my PS3 (original with spiderman fonts) but sometimes it's good entertainment for the kids

Problem is, I've fed up with it - any suggestions to fix?

1) Very laggy. Press something, wait wait wait ... something happens. Ok I understand it's pretty slow that's fine.

2) But the network bit is the killer. Takes a whole 12 hours to download a 1gb demo. What's with that?!
And now it's so slow I can't even load the PS Store to get a demo ... it's stuck on the loading page.

Is it normal?

(As far as I can remember it's been like that since day 1)

The actual PSN experience on PS3 is pretty poor - takes ages to load the store, and the act of buying things and selecting menu items is painfully slow.  I hadn't noticed how bad it was until I got a PS4 and compared them side by side. the PS4 starts up the store much faster and shifts between menu items much faster too.

but once I have actually selected a game to download (or patches etc) , it downloads on PS3 very fast - bigpipe VDSL, using ethernet over powerline to get from PS3 to my modem.  Get pretty much full line speed as far as i can tell. (~45Mbps)

I had an xbox 360 first, then got a PS3 mostly to play the Last of Us (which the Mrs liked the look of) - I noticed the same thing with navigating the menus on the PS3, everything seems very slow and laggy. Also, I'm not sure if it's just The Last of Us or all games, but it takes what seems like an age to start the game.

I find the store slow to access, but download speeds have always been fine for me over a cabled connection... the wifi I find very flaky on PS3's.

PSN is super slow, even over TC cable (when I used to have that) and a wired connection. It was normal for 200MB downloads to take a few hours. There's a bottleneck somewhere.

That's about right ... > 1 gb over tens of hours.

Let's hope I can download minecraft for my kids today ... otherwise I'll be upset

Was that Wi-Fi or wired?

Unfortunately my router is too far away

Wired. Wireless wasn't practical for me at the time.

Hmm it seems it's not network this time. It's broken.

Ps store hangs the whole system. Deleted program and reinstalled store and same thing happens. When I go into store I get a blue screen that shows three words. Ps store, search, cart.

Holy moly. $800 and one play every month and its given up. No more consoles!

anyway so what i did was tried to logon to my psn account on the web - didn't work.
today i went to psn to create a new account only to find it automatically logged me on to my pSN account (which wouldn't happen the whole of last night)

tried to make it download to the PS3 from the web.
after a few tweaks it started downloading to 24% unbeknowst to me, and then i pressed something and it's stuck at 27% (of 84 mb) for a few minutes

*sigh my PS3 is diseased

[it's a good thing, after getting the minecraft for the kids i'm not going to touch it, nor buy any other console!]
