Microsoft have announced significant price increases to Gamepass today. They range from 40-50%. Some aspects of the service are being enhanced but I think I’m done with Gamepass when my sub runs out later this year.

I’ve got a decent steam library and don’t play enough games to justify the increases. Just like the streamers they really are going to bring back warez and all the associated horribleness that comes with that. Fortunately Steam continues to just do what they say they would always do.

Yikes.  Thanks for mentioning this.  I rarely used my Game Pass Ultimate and kept meaning to cancel it.  Went into the portal and saw the subscription was still at $28.  When I hit the Cancel button and it asks if you want to downgrade/change your subscription, I saw the Ultimate option was changing to $45.  I simply completed the cancellation.

I'll just join month to month when it's necessary now. I was happy to be on a recurring PC plan for what I was paying. But knowing I'm not playing those games consistently means it's not worth wearing the recurring cost anymore. Seems a bit counterintuitive of them, really.

yowsers - from 28 to 45 per month!?  Yeah I'm not in that... I was getting GPU by using the rewards and it was generally just enough... will see how the new rewards amount stack up but suspect I would be paying ~20 a month for GPU for its use even with rewards.

worth noting they have removed gamepass codes from rewards today, so now you need to buy credit to buy gamepass.

The whole thing feels like more of Microsoft not really knowing what to do with Xbox and struggling to pay off the zenimax deal, it's the second rebrand of gamepass tiers recently. Feels like it's following the trend of video streaming with price increases biw that it's established and will start to see the backlash soon. $45 is too much, that's an indie game a month or half a triple a game, for me I don't get that value out of it. Fortunately with rewards I've got until December 2028 backed up so will carry on and hope I can go beyond that date with more rewards sat waiting to be cashed out in my account.

Worked out, assuming I get all the rewards in bing and xbox, that the new points regime will net 14000 MS points per month and you need 26400 to get a $50 card to pay for the GPU at $46 per month... so I need to supplement GPU by ~$23 a month now compared to the $0 using the rewards previously.

Yeah I'm gonna ride out my 24 month sub from a Series S I bought and sold at the time of the last price increase and then that'll be me done. Already cancelled my recurring payment and said the price increase is why.

I’m going to sell my Series S this week. There’s no point in keeping it.

My Series X is my main device, backed up by Geforce Now... I generally buy my games via keys using a VPN so I'm still able to get good use... I wasn't really using gamepass that much so i don't think I'll miss out that much especially as I'm not playing online.

My daughter is very much PC gamers and I generally like PlayStation exclusives.

I’ve got a living room gaming PC running Bazzite for steam games already so it’s no real loss.

EB games still has vouchers at the "old" price.  Got some today just to finish off some games.

I'm just gonna go cold turkey after mine expires next month.  I haven't paid for GPU since I bought my Xbox (and did the converstion from gold to GPU) and I've been using rewards since the beginning of the year to pay... I could carry on with that and save $22 per month but that is $22 more than I was paying... $45 a month is the same as me finding keys online and I don't really play that many game pass games anyway.

I just brought a bunch of 3 month codes for $86.95 from JB/EB etc ie. at the "old" price, and stacked them up. Kinda spendy in the short term, but saves nearly $200 pa.

I canceled my subscription, did use Game Pass to play old games with my son.

Might resubscribe for the Premium one as it's cheaper than what I was paying for Ultimate.

Don't care about day one releases.
