Hi, yes correct, get yourself a small 5port switch and mount that at the ONT to back feed the bedrooms. But as mentioned, I would not use any of those cables without re-terminating them first as they will perform poorly or if at all as they are.

Hi, sorry I dont have a similar panel to hand to demonstrate, but the key issue is that all the wire pairs should not be untwisted, "AT All" except maybe the last 5mm before the termination, and even then that is not normally done. The pairs should be unsheathed for only 10-20mm or less.
By untwisting the pairs you destroy the impedance of the line (these are 100ohm twisted pair transmission lines) which causes reflections and inturn screws the signal.

Actually I grabbed a standard 24port cat5e patch panel and terminated three cables on it to demonstrate what the terminations should look like, anything significantly different to this will be an issue.
Also note those short RJ45-RJ45 patch leads that are in the panel, they are voice grade only, they are intended for patching the voice ports (L1/L2 etc) to room outlets only, not for data.

theitman: So went to the house today and had a look to see if I could actually squeeze everything into the cabinet. I can actually fit everything in there but it's tight and probably not safe? So what I'm going to do it have the modem and router in the lounge, I still want to have the lan port in the bedroom active for the gaming PC, can someone further explain how I set that up? Patch from the modem back into a lan port that goes back to the patch panel and jump it? Thanks
My crude paint image was that. But here it is again in more detail. You can replace the switch for 'direct connection to BRDM' but it limits activating other ports in the home without one.

That will limit you to 100Mbit if you don't mind. And like most generic ones will end up the bottle neck when more than 2 ports loaded at full speed.

Double checked our cabinet(s). And I seem to recall some bright spark wasn't thinking straight and terminated all 7 outlets as forced phone (1:1 from redzone home) in the same cabinet as antenna leads while the ONT and fibre was terminated at a 2nd point above entry.
So I have 2 ETH runs down roof ducting to the 2nd cabinet. 1ph (to hub board) , 1 data (to switch) and then distributed from there to some of the 11 additional cable runs we added - terminated at the rack panel on the right (and 2 outlet faceplates swapped out to go with)
Hi, clearly a Fast Ethernet switch (as per the trademe link) is fine, but if you want to future proof then a GigE makes sense. What router are you using, does it have GigE LAN ports

I would recommend a Gigabit switch else you're limiting yourself in the future. They're not much.

i would never ever buy 100Mb (fast ethernet) switches, a Gigabit switch is cheap as chips these days
