Hi all, I'm after some help regarding my fibre install in our new house. So basically the electritian and the chorus guys are done and I have no idea how I'm meant to connect it all up. I'm wanting to have the router in the lounge under the tv where there is a lan port. Are the white cables connected to the lan ports in each room? Any advice would be great! Thanks

The white cables look like coax cables to me. Not for ethernet.

The whole set up looks rather dodgy on second look.

There's an ONT in there and a single power point. No router, nowhere to plug in a router's power supply, and possibly no room to house a router inside that box.

White round = RG6 for Sky/antenna splitter (not present or terminated)

Beige in back left = LAN to outlets in each room. The 3 short RJ45 tails are to jump across to the other side of that wee board they are punched into (if configured that way) to make multiple outlets have a live phone cable from the L1-4 side of the board (ph would normally be punched down there)

What you want now, is a router and or switch in that box, and a lead to each of the holes on the left side where those wee tails are now to the room you want.

lan cable from ONT to the one that is marked lounge, into the black outlet board to send it to the lounge

Put you slightly wrong.. In that configuration, it appears the top 4 are unusable. You only have 6 available to you as it's using all 4pr on each punchblock not just 2 for a phone layout.

I suspect bottom right 4 + 2 on right will be active and the short jumps are likely to either mark do not use, or use.

Trying to find the exact module block, however it would appear from the pic neither. Looks to have made that a dumb distribution block with star wiring rather than an analogue block. All 6 outlets look to be jumpered with all 4pr. So as long as at least half those sockets on the block have 1,3,2,6 parallel along with just 3,4 thats 6 usable jumpers waiting on a switch or pr from ONT2

The black block is a 8 patch block with 6 ports wired. It also has some phone ports, but ignore them.
The LAN cables are labeled, I can see LNG KIT and BED1 (you'll need to trace them to the patch block) and there appears to be one port per room (a bit average, but better than some people get.)

Here's how it works. each port on the black block is connected to one port in the house, it's really nothing more than an ethernet cable run in the wall.

You find the port connected to the cable labeled LNG and connect it to the ONT port using a short patch cable. Next, get your router and connect it to the port in the lounge. DONE.

Oh, and pull out those stupid short jumper plug leads, they're just taking up space for nothing.

Is it quite common for people to do this now rather then just using wifi though the home?

Depends on the house a bit, but I meant to write every new house.

Build dependent. Its often easily done if the existing cable has been vertical dropped from roof space. Use them as a draw line to run new and star config them to single location in roof space or other accessible cupboard. Costly however.

How easy would it to be to get Cat 6 to all rooms in a 2 story house if the ONT is downstairs ?

Thanks all, so from what people have said I need to locate the lounge lan cable and trace it to the black patch box. Once located I need to plug a patch cable front the ont to THAT lounge port on the patch box. Once done I can plug my modem into the lounge lan port and then connect my Asus router to the modem?
