Hello,
I have bought a adsl ethernet modem,
When I connect it the computer says local area connection is connected,
When I go into firefox or msn or any internet using program it wont connect it just comes up with a login and when I go to setup a login for it it just comes up with some other 56k modem not my ethernet one.
Thanks.

The "connect" is only telling you your computer LAN has a signal. It doesn't mean it's connected to the Internet.

It seems you have to configure your DSL modem to connect to the Internet. It probably needs you to enter your username and password to configure it. In most cases you do this configuration through your web browser.

Look for more information in the manual.

I think your issue could be that you have previously used dial up on that computer and that is your default connection. It is possible that you need to go to your internet options and select the lan as your default choice for connectivity

In internet options on windows, you don't need to add a connection if you are using the blue ethernet cable to your computer.
For best results set to 'never dial a connection' (control panel -> internet options) , that way it will ensure that you'll use the ethernet account instead of having a dial up prompt come up.

Still not working? You'll need to ensure that your ADSL modem is connecting to the internet correctly. If you are using one of the Telecom/Xtra dlink modems, you can open up internet explorer. In the address bar type '10.1.1.1'.
It will ask for your username and password. Despite the appearance you just need to type 'admin' in the username and password fields.

Can't get that page? Check your IP settings -> Start -> Control panel -> Network connections -> Local Area Network -> Internet protocol (TCP/IP). Make sure they are set to automatic. Also make sure you don't have any firewalls that are blocking the adapter from accuiring an IP address. If its coming up with limited or no connectivity... try restarting the modem.

If its one of the 302G models, you'll see connection to internet and connection to exchange (which is easy enough, check username and password) . If its any of the other models, you'll see a Dlink page.
Check the username by clicking on WAN, and checking the username field. If it has user@jetstreamgames.co.nz or user@xtrabb.co.nz... its the default username which is used for registration - you won't be able to access the 'internet' with that. If its your username + .xadsl@xtra.co.nz thats ok. If not you'll need to enter your username and password, then save and reboot the modem.

Check to see if its connected click on the status tab.
Under WAN you'll see status. If its Connected it means that everything is good. Waiting for response (showing all the time) or Not connected can suggest bad username or password. However check your ADSL status (button on the left) to ensure that you are actually getting ADSL sync.

You should logically be able to connect to the internet.
