I "upgraded" from the standard Thomson g router to a TP-Link TD-W8960N, entered all the telecom login details, seemed to work ok then left the room with a iPad and the Wifi range was terrible, used to be able to go all around the house with the TG585 telecom router now I can't even leave the room without terrible download speed, the wifi bars on the iPad are still showing max as well but am getting dial up speeds, would really love some advice of what to do if anyone has a similar item in case I haven't setup something right before I take it back to the shop. I have played firmware, tried different wifi channels but nothing has worked so far...

What Firmware are you running currently ?

The telecom router does not have external antennas, therefore your range should be much better with the Tp-Link.

Try placing the router in a different room, and testing it.

If all else fails, go and get a replacement. Mine has been working great :)

I upgraded to the one before the latest beta, I am starting to think its a defective model because I am about 8 metres away from it and it drops to dial up speeds...

So you have the same model, the blue one with the 2 antennas? What kind of range do you get?
