Hi,
Well, my router shows that my other computer is available on my computer, but my computer won't let me access it.
It's been working fine forever, but I bluescreened today and afterwards all my network settings and security was down.
I worked on it all day and this is where I am at.
The other computer acknowledges mine and can access mine.  The other computer is back online.
My computer is online and the router attached to mine shows the other computer.
My computer also shows the bridge in my network, but I can't see the other computer or access its files.
File sharing is enabled. and the network discovery is on.
My computer is vista, the other is xp

Have you tried connecting directly rather than looking in the 'Network' pane?

Try putting this into your explorer bar:

smb://user_name@computer_name/share_name

Just make sure to replace user_name, computer_name, and share_name with their correct values.

If that doesn't work then are they in the same workgroup?

Well it was my computer.
I took it to the shop and got a loaner, and when I set up the loaner the network was already in place and working perfectly.
They think I may need a new motherboard.
thanks for your reply

Why did they say that you needed a new motherboard?

Sounds to me as if you are having a software issue, not a hardware issue. Especially considering the other computer can access your Vista machine fine.

Well, I called tech support in India, and we did a full system restore. (through the bios.) Afterwards I still kept bluescreening 3x a day which was my original problem, (then later the network problem started). I still coulnd't get the network back up after the restore. I called tech support again and we did some more bios work, but problems never resolved. then I coulndn't get through to india, and I figured, this computer is under warranty with a loaner available, I am sick of it and taking it in.

At first the tech guys said "oh, we will run a system restore first" when I told them I already had then the guy said, maybe it needs a new motherboard.

I personally have no clue what it needs, only that it needs to be fixed.  bluescreening, not holding my network configurations, never let me make back up recovery disks, stopped letting me receive updates.

Sorry for the rant
thanks for the help

sounds like you should run memtest86 (download off the web) this will tell you if you have faulty ram in your computer.

as per the network issue, it is possible that a system restore or rebuild has turned your widnows firewall back on, try turn it off and see if you can connect again.

Flamer.
