I emailed Go Wifi and they said "the product hasn't been released internationally, so we are unable to order it at this stage, so no eta is available currently".

Bummer - I guess I could try Youshop or similar; I assume the only difference is the powercord?

I have had no luck ordering from unifi to a reshipper. They cancelled the order. let me know if you have sucess and how you paid.

OK, thanks; let's see what happens. I've had Apple cancel orders to a reshipper previously, so I'll not be surprised it it happens with this order also.

I have no idea at this stage how much it will cost to ship to NZ. My expectation is that it will be relatively expensive for what it is, as that's how I view YouShop in general, so I only use it for stuff I really, really want. Given the UDM Pro has more capability than the rack mount USG version for less than 10% the price I'm willing to throw a few more Dollars at getting one than the asking price.

If the order gets cancelled I'll see if an old school friend in South Carolina would be willing to receive it for me and then ship to YouShop. I've been hanging out for a UDM Pro since I first read about it what seems like ages ago. I really want to enable IPS on my gigabit fibre connection, and I have enough Unifi cameras that the UCK G2+ should really be dedicated to Protect - or I can split the cameras across the two NVRs - I can then re-aggregate them in SecuritySpy, which is the system I actually use to view / record.

This stuff generally frustrates me - I'm also trying to get a Hermes Apple Watch for my wife as a birthday present and, despite it being an ludicrously overpriced version of something I could pick up in Noel Leeming at lunchtime today, neither Apple nor Hermes NZ (who are based in Aus) wants to help.

I have seen threads come up of people travelling to the USA and asking if others want stuff bringing back, although the UDM Pro would be getting up there in terms of size / weight.

I don't know why companies make it so hard for people to give them good old dollars to buy something from them!!?!?!?!

Whats the speed these can get with IDS and stuff turned off? At 3.5 gigabit that would probably be a no for me for when I get faster internet, but if that off it delivers 5 or whatever chorus will limit it to then that would possibly be a yes, unless something else comes out to compete.

Just got a cancellation email - not a surprise, but still disappointing.

To be fair, while the UDM Pro isn’t radio equipment, a lot of Ubiquiti stuff is, and even the kit that doesn’t use radio still has to undergo a lot of international compliance, so at least it’s not simply a commercial blocker.

Unfortunately in the email they say they want a US issued card and billing address as well as a shipping address that isn’t a known forwarder, which makes it a bit trickier. I don’t mind asking a friend to receive and on-ship a UDM Pro for me, but I’m less keen to ask him to also pay for it.

I wonder if a US based reseller might be less stringent...

I have had no problem getting unifi switches (just the baby 8 port ones) from amazon sellers to shipito in the past, now they are adding GST I have to find a new reshipper that doesnt, and havent bought anything for ages.

Now PB are not so badly priced for it with the dollar being so bad and if GST is added coming over its within the difference I will just buy locally, so I guess that is one win for that "wah wah GST isnt fair" people that got us into this mess. Just have to wait on the new router tho. Hope its available here or online easily before chorus get the 10 gig goodness available to me.

The data sheet https://dl.ubnt.com/ds/udm-pro says 8,000 with only DPI enabled.

I got a chance to watch the video yesterday evening. It actually made me reconsider how much I want one...

A few things were disappointing with the video for me.

Chris was unprepared to test the unit with only a 400mbps broadband connection. Surely he could have faked a 1gbps connection (or even a faster one) with all the UniFi kit he has laying around, and done a proper speed test with IPS turned on?

He also missed the point when talking about the number of cameras it can support. Yes, the CPU performance and other load will play a part, but if you read UniFi’s commentary on why the UCK G2+ has the limitations it has, it is throttled by the write speed of the disk storage rather than the CPU. 

I did appreciate the summary at the end where Chris crystallised my thinking for me - who is it for? Nobody has to be the answer. Anyone who needs (physical) access control needs redundancy. Anyone who is happy to have a single point of failure doesn’t need access control - nor likely a VoIP exchange.

After watching the video I realised what I really want is a replacement USG that has the horsepower to run IPS on something over 1gbps broadband. I actually spent some time looking for someone who has done real life testing of the UDM’s throughput with IPS turned on (I didn’t find anything), my thinking being I may as well buy one of those now, save money and turn off the AP as buy a Pro and not use half the features - IF it could service my 1gbps connection. All I can find it that it throttles to 850mbps from documentation though. 

In the absence of what I want, and with no indication whatsoever that what I want is even planned, I guess I’ll hold out for the Pro as it’s faster than the non-Pro and also rack mountable rather than a consumer pod design, but my enthusiasm has dropped more than a little.

Actually with UniFi being the most enterprise offering from Ubiquiti I do wonder where they are going. I’m just a single-site home user and I don’t think the UDM Pro spec makes sense to me. It’s not the USG upgrade that the army of people who manage the network of numerous SMEs are looking for as they want a single controller with multiple sites, which isn’t supported. It’s also nowhere near resilient enough for the small enterprise that supports its network in house to risk running more than one of its functions per unit.

It’s a solution looking everywhere for problems and trying to solve all of them - presumably to try to up sell other Ubiquity product lines to buyers; attract network users to try the cameras, or camera users to try the APs. I can’t imagine there is a single user who genuinely wants the full set of features that have been shoehorned into it.

Oh, and was it just me, or is the touchscreen slightly off alignment with the cutout? It looked to me like the horizontal stripe was narrower on the right than the left.
