That's interesting, as I've been talking with the channel manager from Allterco about importing these and they said just yesterday, and I quote, "we only have Australian partners".

It seems they will just install them for you. Probably slightly different than selling to the general public. I would have thought the channel manager would know about it though.

Lookin at a 2.5 for some outdoor (led) lights - where the switches are in the house.  I currently mostly have aeotec or fibaro zwave....but have started going off zwave.

I have 2 1pms to install as well already, but are in need of a 2.5. 

Was preferring someone local (or a fellow gz member, that doesn't have immediate plans to install, so I could order another replacement, as looking at having my sparky coming in the next 2 weeks).

Wonder how much stock they hold.   About double the price of shelly directly (including currency enchange).

Only just saw this - I was the one to introduce Greg (the owner of Juice Electrical) to the Shelly gear when he installed some 1PMs in my house last year, I guess he liked them!

I have these lights but two of the light switches are 2 & 3 gang. Which shelly do I need if I also want to dim the lights and which one just for on/off. And for the switches that are 3 gang, will 3 shelly's fit as I will probably need one shelly for each switch?

Well the fact that you’re asking the questions says you probably know the answers, but for others who may read this thread in future, here’s what I’ve been able to piece together, since I’m in a similar situation and have been learning about these as well.

The legal situation is you can self-install ... if you’re a registered electrician.

Sure. But as with doing anything that’s against the law, you will carry the risk if anything goes wrong, or your actions are discovered.

It would depend on the sparky. You’re basically asking him/her to sign off on work he/she didn’t perform.

Will my house insurer care?

If the house is damaged and the source is traced to the wiring and enough of the Shelly (or similar) unit remains to be identifiable and you can’t show it was correctly installed and signed-off then probably, yes. Otherwise, I’d doubt it.

Congratulations, that’s exciting. FWIW, my advice would be to see if you can find a friend who knows a sparky and have a conversation with him/her, see if you can exchange services somehow, to keep the cost down but still be safe. You don’t want to risk anything for your new asset and you’ll have enough to worry about without adding extra fire risk, no matter how small the realistic chance of it is.

I can see the need for an electrician installing these devices in some cases , but it seems according to worksafe and the act you can install these as a homeowner.

• Connect and disconnect fixed wired appliances.
• Relocate existing switches, socket outlets, and lighting outlets that are supplied with electricity by tough plastic- sheathed cables.
