rp1790:

Aliexpress also sells them a bit cheaper for a little over $200 with shipping at https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32884771132.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.743e3c00rFOSXB&mp=1

I noticed that that one claims UV alongside the usual readings, has anyone tested the UV on those? Some of the cheap Chinese "UV" meters measure light intensity and then report that as UV, meaning they assume that a certain amount of light is made up of UV and give that as the UV reading. You can test it indoors to see if you get a UV reading.

I purchased an Ecowitt HP2551 from Amazon Australia about 15 months ago. Picked up a couple of addition sensors direct from Ecowitt for around US$12 each. It's a great unit and the Ecowitt.net website is very good.

Ecowitt are another Fine Offset brand - units are mostly the same as other FO brands but Ecowitt tend to use different model numbers - even though the models are often identical

edit: most fine offset models (excluding Ambient Weather if I'm not mistaken) are capable of feeding to ecowitt.net

Update

Ended up buying the pantech wh2900 after reading all the feed back on the whirrpool forum, linked to earlier in this discussion. Its up and running and Im very happy with it, at this stage. Setup was pretty straight forward, just follow the instructions. I found the  Ecowitt site to be the easiest to connect to, and it also has the better online interface, plus it also keeps the clock up to date.

After _quite_ an extended wait due to normal Indiegogo things and abnormal global pandemic things, I finally had my Weatherflow Tempest station turn up a couple of days ago.

https://weatherflow.com/tempest-weather-system/

So far it seems to do exactly what it says on the tin. I love the fact there are no moving parts, even for the rain and wind sensors.

Cheers - N

I wouldn't mind getting one of those, still waiting for them to open up to International Orders

Did you choose the expedited (Leftover USA etc stock) shipping?

(For those who don't know: There is a QC delay with the ones for NZ / AUS and some other places, option was given to wait and you get a free battery backup unit for the hub, or forego the backup and get it now, as long as stock was available)

(I'm waiting for the later shipping. Waited 11 months, what's a bit longer in the scheme of things!)

So who else here has a Tempest (Latest) Weather Station?

I see they have popped up in:

Oxford, Rangiora, Ohoka, Diamond Harbour, Edgeware, St Albans, Upper Riccarton, Halswell, Cracroft, Murchison, Prebbleton (To be installed)

Haven't looked further, but amazing number around Christchurch!

Christchurch is well represented with the new Tempest, and good coverage too!

Hornby and Woolston added now.

Look forward to the forecasts being accurate.

At least WeatherFlow can see what they forecast and what they got, and adjust their algorithms to match etc.

rogercruse:

corksta:... I use the Netatmo system with an additional indoor module, rain gauge and anemometer. Combined though it might be a bit more than you’re looking to spend, but it’s a good system and works well and does everything you’re wanting to do. I’ve had it for over a year and batteries are still showing as full. ...

Me too, since 2017. Indoor modules are surprisingly useful in understanding how warm / cool your home gets.

Agree, another Netatmo user here. I use mine with Alexa and IFTTT - eg alerts me when the temp drops below a certain value. Can also use it to turn on the heatpump etc

Extra modules are a bit pricey but well worth it.

I had to replace my (otherwise accurate) FO after 3 years since the plastic case/parts were not UV resistant. Keep that in mind when buying.

Looks like there is in excess of 70 Tempest Weather Stations that I have found installed around NZ now.

I'm impressed.

Still waiting for rain here in Christchurch to see how the haptic sensor compares with my other stations.Temperature, wind and barometer are about the same.

UV and light varies plus / minus / same to my other one which has that function.

I've been keeping an eye on the WeatherFlow website as I'm keen to get the Tempest but appears to still be USA only.

However, have since found it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Tempest-Weather-Accurate-Forecasts-Wireless/dp/B0868WY7NY/

Looking at around $500 NZD to get it to NZ with a 2 week shipping time.

Has anyone else come across anything else that is worth looking at?
