Bewildered:...apparently they are experiencing high demand so there may be some delays...

Due to the high number of failures?

I didn't even get a reply as to why I (and others I know) never received the promised battery backup for the hub for choosing a delay for shipping was ok from their original launch!

Don't know.....I got my response - out of warranty (I knew that already) and so have to spring for a new one at a 50% discount. The cost isn't bad but shipping at USD$59 is pretty darn steep given the costs that Amazon / AliExpress can deliver. So will put the new one up once it arrives and we'll see how that one goes.

Will keep the old for parts I think though it is unclear to me just how repairable they really are but at least I can have a go if the new one fails. Not sure what I'd do if that happens - I have limited appetite for spending $400 every two years for a weather station - at that point a subscription for a data feed would be cheaper.....as it is I can now scrape tempest data from the tempest weather map so some crowd sourcing of data may be a better solution for the handful of data points that are essential. Equally for things like light levels building a room sensor and doing room-level readings might even be better for the intended purpose....so we will see where we land if it dies again...

My Tempest stopped reporting the barometer reading this afternoon! I now await the next part to fail!

I assume it is out of warranty as it was one on the early Kickstarter ones in NZ.

Given the failure rate of the units, I won't be buying another device from them.

Given they never even replied to my promised battery backup query email, they don't deserve a second chance.

Oh well, given it was a Kickstarter device that actually shipped and worked for a while, I should be thankful!

No harm in contacting them though is there? You might get a replacement free of charge once they diagnose it from their end.

They never replied to me previously, and I'm over getting up on the roof now. It was nice while it lasted.

I think I'll find a rock to hang to check the current weather now.

Oh, and find one of those clocks with the man or lady which come out depending on the forecast!🙃

Reply received from Weatherflow / Tempest confirming the failure of the sensor.

Given the high number of failures with some people on their third unit now (Friends included) , and the not cheap cost, I definitely wouldn't recommend the Tempest to anyone.

Good concept / Bad longevity!

Oh well, it least it lasted 10 years, which is longer than a lot of them. Only had to reset the Hub once in that time, and the other sensors are still working today!

10 years is an OK time I think for a weather station to last....it doesn't have an easy life outside.....but two years is definitely too short. So I'm the same - if it fails again and if I can can't repair it using parts from my old device I will not be replacing it....though I do not know how else I can get weather data instead....particularly the rain notification is really useful and that needs to be real-time, not just a retrospective measurement.

Looking at other brands of weather stations I'm not sure there others at the same price point that reliably last longer than 5 - 10 years? I'd be interested to know as it's always good to have options in the event the Tempest needs to go....

For something promoted as having no moving parts to fail, and will last a lifetime, the failure rate is far too high!

They have just offered a one off with No Warranty replacement if I pay the postage!

I have asked them what the postage is as they didn't state.

A friend has offered to replace it on the roof if I decide to get it.

I forgot to add:

Having had Weather Stations for almost 40 years, I miss the console part, which works with no internet or remote server required!

Everything in "the cloud" until the wind blows the cloud away and you have no data without a kludge!

Postage is via UPS which isn't cheap but it is pretty fast. My shipping last week was about USD60.

I'm up to six years now on my $250 fineoffset station that gives more accurate results than a nearby tempest.

Re the Tempest.

If anyone else here never received their "promised Power Bank Hub Backup" here is what Weather Flow said:

"We have sent many of the power banks to users in New Zealand so I would suggest that those users reach out so that we can get them squared away." (Who never received one that was promised)

Anyone looking for a replacement 2.4V, 1300mAh 1865 Lithium Titanate Battery for their Tempest weather station? I've got one that looks like it's failing (although could be the charge controller) and I need to order four (4) in order get them to ship so I'll have three (3) spare. Cost would be $25 + $5 shipping ea. (extra if you are rural).

PM if you want to reserve one.

Ok guys Ive been away from geekzone some months.

I was in the market for a weather Station and forgot to even read the forums on here. !!

Anyway I went with Netatmo weather station( yes I know I just liked the look of them)  and got the whole shebang. Indoor/outdoor unit, Rain Gauge and wind gauge and 2 mounting units.

Easy to install and set up.

Like to web and app interface and I've shared with several of my family and friends.

I was aware of the issue re keeping connection with the base unit but so far so good.

Had my Tempest for 2 years and 2 months and the temperature sensor has failed. I reached out to them and got the standard it’s out of warranty and they will do a replacement for half price.
Not putting any more money into that company. Like others I’ll wait and see what else fails.
