DjShadow:

Looking at around $500 NZD to get it to NZ with a 2 week shipping time.

Has anyone else come across anything else that is worth looking at?

Friend of mine has one and is very happy with it. I still like my Davis (brought in from the US at US prices, not the obscene NZ price) because they're more or less indestructible (we're coastal) and you can still get spare parts a decade or more later, but you do pay a bit of a premium for the quality.

I have had the Davis Vantage Pro2 up for about 5 years now , Put it up and never touched it since.

I added the uv and solar radiation sensors to it from the beginning as well.

Some cost involved but never had a single issue with it and for me that pays for itself.

Yesterday I just got a link from Weatherflow offering a 'trial run' to ship to NZ. I jumped at the offer.....so should be here in a week or so. The only bugger is that I forgot to buy a bird deterrent attachment...probably should have done that....might be seeing a lot of rain with birds sitting on it. :-(

So...if anyone else happens to be buying one...don't make the same mistake. Now I'll have to wait to see if I actually needed one (Murphy's law says yes) and then see how crazy expensive it is to just ship the spikes. If I was doing it again I would just have got it US$7 regardless as the shipping is free since it's coming with the meter itself... hindsight is always 20/20.

Of course if this advice turned out to be helpful for you....then you could always considering importing a spare deterrent one for me....It's so cheap that I don't think you'd be risking much in the case it turned out I wasn't good for a $20 debt.  ;-0

I bought a weather flow too (same “trial” email). Forgot the bird attachment but will see how it goes. I can always 3D Print something.

Neither, guessing people got picked at random.

How much did it end up costing incl shipping in NZD?

I got the "trial" email and ordered one (with permission from the wife🙂). Decided against using USPS and went for UPS expedited, ended up costing NZ$572.54 in total. Shipped yesterday, and expected delivery 11 August.

I'd be surprised if a bird is able to balance for very long on top of the Tempest weather station as they usually need to wrap their claws around something. The only place I've seen a bird on my current weather station is on the bar between the anemometer and the rain gauge.

I'm looking to get one if these myself (I guess it'll take a while before they start shipping to anyone here not in the 'trial'). For those already awaiting delivery, did you order the "simple installation kit"?

Nope. Didn't order the mounting kit either. From what I can see just need some pipe to mount it on....that can't be too hard to source locally.... haven't quite decided where to put it yet....definitely has to be around the back as too easy to pinch in the front yard....but then more sheltered at the back. I'm actually seriously considering ripping my Sky dish off the roof (just the dish part - don't use it anyway) and using that mount to anchor a pole on my roof. I think that would make for a pretty mint location....

@aaristotle I went with UPS then read your thread and assumed you were ordering one too - ah well! Guess you'll get yours first :)

Unfortunately, it will most likely make for a very poor mounting location. The solar energy reflected back from the roof will create significant errors in your temperature readings, and the house itself will interrupt the wind flow so you'll have errors there too.

Have a look at this link for some good advice.

Those that didn’t purchase the bird deterrent made a wise choice

With the bird deterrent the cheapest shipping option is USPS (6-20 days) at $92 USD

Compared with $58 via UPS with just the weatherflow..

Wish I checked that before FOMO adding the bird deterrent, I need it anyway as we have so many birds around
