I just received my dispatch email now. Very poor form for them to state early dispatch and then shirk that responsibility.

Fyi the ability to request Alexa to send a text message is now working. It does a voice to text and also adds a link to your message as recorded. Groovy.

Set this up from within app.

I've not pre-ordered anything from JB before, and based on this experience, won't do it again.

I used their email form at 9 this morning to point out that my Dot had shipped but my Echoes had not. I asked whether their had been a delay, and if so, what the new ETA might be.

Having not had a reply by 5, I got on the phone and found that there's not a number you can call specifically about phone orders. JB in Willis Street here in Wellington told me to call an Auckland store, which then told me they were tired of people telling customers that...

No one was able to help but apparently a woman who handles online orders would in fact be in that store tomorrow and would call me.

Meanwhile, someone I know was able to walk into our local store and pick up their Echo. Dodgy online shopping experience.

Of course, delays happen, but a little communication wouldn't go amiss.

I have a 1st gen Echo set to my NZ address, but since it's a 1st gen, it's not talking Australian and it hasn't tried to move me to the NZ Alexa experience.

I'm seeing none of the promised NZ skills. No official NZ Herald, Stuff, NewsTalk ZB etc. Are they coming up for people with nZ devices and are they any good?

I tried to talk to someone today at jbhifi also found no phone number or email address for web orders only a online form. Their NZ Twitter and Facebook accounts have not been used for a long time. I ended up talking to jbhifi in AU via twitter who then looked up my ordered and contacted the Albany store in Auckland. Got a reply that the store will contact me. Only got the message back from jbhifi in AU at 5pm however.

i'm on day 2 of waiting for a reply from JB about my online order,, i used their contact form,  of the 2 echo dots for 99,  for which the payment failed ( completely my fault), when i attempt to update my card, the order goes from the invoiced 99 dollars, to wanting the now 178 dollars. Which is my query with them if i will be charged the higher price, if i don't hear back from them tomorrow, ill be visiting the Wairau Park Store, which im sure a person in that store told me is where all their online orders are shipped from, so ill try and settle the matter in store and collect.

I am not really going to leave $250 dollars worth of stuff at the front door with little weather cover.

Given the choice I wouldn't either, but unfortunately the courier doesn't always give you the option. As I suspected my signature required delivery was signed with the couriers ID and left to soak in the rain. Luckily the two Echo Dot packages were well wrapped in plastic inside the soggy cardboard box they were shipped in.

I only got the shipped notification at about 1:30 pm today. Hopeless for a pre order, again JB Hifi stuff up the experience.

JEDENZED: What date did you place your order if you don’t mind me asking?

23 Jan

Lucky. I ordered mine on the 20th, still yet to receive a shipping notification. I'm in Welly as well, I should have just bought it from the store. >_<

Never pre-ordering anything from JB again.

I haven't received the promised callback, but I did receive a shipping notification this morning. This means I now don't have the option to ask if I can pick up, and I suspect they won't have paid for Saturday delivery.

Ordered 2 Dots 19 Jan, shipping confirmation yesterday 4.30pm, delivered today about 8.30 - or they would have been if I'd been there, but not left on the doorstep after the courier didn't sign for them and I presume on a tour of the locality before I pick up from the Post Office later today or tomorrow.

Still no idea what I'm going to do with them.

I am keen to swap with one of the Echo Dot with Google Home Mini if you are interested. I missed the boat on pre-ordering the Dot's.

The local JB HiFi in Hamilton had Echos and Dots in store at lunchtime today.

No Echo plus units, though.

They also seem to have started stocking Hue bulbs to go with them. Including the newer gen colour bulbs (screw fixing only) and the white bulbs that can change from warm white to daylight. Neither of which I've seen in NZ before.

Thanks, but should be able to find a use for them, hopefully at least as an intercom. As I mentioned somewhere here, yelling 'you're dinners ready' through closed bedroom doors on a different floor gets a bit boring after a while...
