Still no idea what I'm going to do with them.

I am keen to swap with one of the Echo Dot with Google Home Mini if you are interested. I missed the boat on pre-ordering the Dot's.

Thanks, but should be able to find a use for them, hopefully at least as an intercom. As I mentioned somewhere here, yelling 'you're dinners ready' through closed bedroom doors on a different floor gets a bit boring after a while...

Yeah that was probably me - this is the one reason we have dots in the downstairs kids bedrooms!

Anyone buying for Sonos integration be aware it doesn't support the AU/NZ region yet. Sonos roadmap is March-May

Is there an way to see a list of all the skills that are available in NZ?

All my devices are set with an NZ address, timezone etc. but they are linked to my US Amazon account so I don't think I'm seeing any NZ specific skills. I assume I have to register the devices to my Australian account to see them, but I'm reluctant to do this due to an earlier post where someone said his devices had automatically migrated, lost access to skills and there was no way to get them back.

As the Sonos skill is one of the main ones I use, I certainly don't want to loose the US skills until Sonos is available here.

Also interested in the availability of Wemo and OpenHab skills in NZ region.

Cheers,
Pete.

Hi all from Christchurch!

Wanted to add my vote also, for a comprehensive list of NZ specific skills/abilities. Googling has various "general"  press statements but nothing too extensive.

Cheers,

I imported a Sonos One and have it working with my Amazon account. I had to set my Sonos profile to US and my Amazon profile is still US as well. But I was still able to set a local address on the Sonos One (and other Alexa devices) and get localised weather reports etc.

I don't use a great deal of skills, other than the built in Smart Home Skill via a locally run HABridge emulator, for controlling openHAB. I did install the Sonos skill though and that works great with the Sonos One.

Using mg Echo Plus, I can issue simple commands to my Sonos speakers. Like 'Play Tunedin Radio New Zealand in Kitchen'

I can only issue commands to individual speakers and then I need to say 'in' and not 'on'. Roll on March / May.

If you go to "Manage Your Content and Devices" on amazon.com, go to settings then country settings then click "here" to learn more then click "Learn about" you can transfer your account that way.

If you find you lose too much in the way of skills then you can switch back the same way but you'd do it from amazon.com.au per my screenshots

Thanks for that. Weather works a bit better now.

I'm a little confused with language support though.

Hue Skill  shows as no AU language support but shows up as a skill.  I do notice in setting the skill up it only shows as AU for supported languages.

Harmony Skill shows AU language support but does not show up as a skill. Hopefully it's not to far away.

I like it.  It's also the first gizmo I've put in the house that the wife likes.  possibly the only one.

Thanks so much for taking the time to walk me through this. Convoluted indeed and wholly unnecessarily so.

Yeah, for the sake of a spoken word news flash, it’s probably a disproportionate compromise to make in losing access to so many other skills. Amazon need to lift their game on providing more for international customers if they want to get people on board properly.

Thanks again!
