I need some help sorting the Shield device and Google Home if anyone has both of these. Will post the problem if there is any response.

Thanks.

Its a bit long-winded and I think specific to the Shield but here goes.

The problem relates to a possible issue with the Nvidia Shield not doing CEC properly. When I say "OK Google, turn off the TV" it replies "OK, turning off the Shield" The Shield turns off but the TV stays on. I had a spare Chromecast device so I plugged that into the TV hoping that would turn the TV off bu the same thing happens, requesting to turn off the TV results in turning off the Shield. How can I get Google Home to turn off the TV?

Its probably just a temporary issue until Nvidia get the shield software updated but it would be nice to have it all shut down with one command. I'm not sure why Google Home thinks the Shield is the TV? Maybe I have it set up incorrectly somewhere.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I have both devices and CEC works fine with an old Samsung TV and a new Sony TV that I just replaced it with.

Because the Sony TV also runs Android TV, I can ask the Google Home to turn off either the Sony TV or the Shield and either will end up turning off both devices.

There is an option in the Shield settings to turn CEC on/off. Have you checked that yours is on?

Yes it is turned on. What is puzzling me is now I have a Chromecast plugged into the TV with the name "TV, why the Google home responds to a request to "Turn off the TV" it says "OK, turning off the Shield". Is there a setting somewhere in Google Home to designate the Chromecast as my TV rather than the Shield?

If you're on an Android device, go to the Google assistant settings(Google app settings) and find the option for Home control.

In there you have the option to give your devices nicknames as well as setting the default video device/music service used for each Google home.

In the Google Home app the Shield is called Shield and the Chromecast is called TV. I cant find the option to set as default though. Under Services/TVs and Speakers I can unlink them but of course dont want to do that. Can you explain where I set TV to be the default? I must be going blind!

My bad, I double checked and it's in the Google home settings.

Chose your Google home and press settings.

There should be a setting for default TV.

I have a similar setup and similar problem.  I have shield and google home and logitech harmony.

When I say "turn off the tv" it does nothing.

When I say "turn off the shield" it turns off the shield, tv and home theatre.

I tried renaming devices in Google Home settings but there's definitely some problem with google home and the shield understanding what is the TV.

Last night it stopped turning on or off the shield but it still casts to it etc. I have read that there may be a problem with CEC on the Shield that may be fixed on the next update, people are reporting CEC went wonky on the 7.1 update
