My iPad Mini with Retina arrived this afternoon, my Nexus 5 arrived yesterday. It's all too much!!

The iPad Mini feels heavier than I expected after spending some time recently with a older Mini. Just a first impression though. Weighs in at 330g (Wifi Only version) where as the specs for the orginal Mini say 308g, not really that much different.

Back to being a Pig in Mud. Cheers.

My other half is dead keen to replace her ipad3 - too heavy for portable use, and the processor is very slow compared to the 5s.

After seeing you lucky posters receive your new Mini-Retinas direct from Apple we were hoping to see them in the shops this week - we'd like to compare the new mini to the Air in the flesh. But no luck. Leeming's helpline indicated that we might have to wait until the first week of December - oh the horror!

Does anyone know what the holdup is and when the new Mini is due out our end of the retail pipe?

I held an iPad air for the first time the other day and holy mother of batman those things are light. Especially compared to my iPad 3. Unfortunately I won't be getting one as I'm getting a PS4 otherwise I'd probably be trading up.

I have decided to wait until the one with the finger print scanner is introduced. It is too annoying having to type in a code each time I want to use it. Also the next mini willhopefully be lighter. Apparently the screen colours on the new mini aren't as good as the air either. Hopefully by then the bottom model will be 32 GB minimum.

Just buy the Mini from Apple Store, if it doesn't satisfy you, you can always return it and get the Air.

Sorry, been off GZ for a few days. NL got them in mid last week. They called me to say they had one held, but my order from Apple arrived the day before. I've also seen them at PB Tech in their glass cabinet.

Why would you LOL?

I happen agree. The fingerprint reader is really useful. I use mine all the time.

Yes I have to agree with your reaction.  First world problems gone mad.  I love the fingerprint reader on my 5S, but it's not an inconvenience that I have to put a four digit code into my iPad Air to use it just like I have had to with every other iPad I've owned to this point!

I solve that problem by storing my State secrets elsewhere :-)

jonathan18: Has anyone heard of anyone else in NZ experiencing problems with the screen?

None in my circle. I've seen two since Friday (one silver and one space grey) and both were fine. I don't know offhand if anyone else in my group has got one, but if anyone did and they had a problem with it, I'd have expected to hear about it.

My one should be arriving tomorrow. I ordered it online this morning from Apple and despite the claim of 5-10 days before it would ship, I got the shipment notice this afternoon. That said to expect delivery on Thursday, but now that the TNT tracker has caught up I see it is coming from Sydney and should be delivered tomorrow. I'm upgrading from an iPad 2, so this will be a big jump. I'll need to get a 4G SIM, just in time for Telecom switching on their network.

My iPad Air has arrived (nine days earlier than Apple's earliest estimate in the order confirmation!), so make that three iPad Airs I've seen with no display issues. Wow, this is fast compared to my iPad 2. No luck getting Telecom's 4G/LTE network to talk to me yet, but 3G is working fine.

On a related matter: the iPad Mini with Retina Display is now available for order from Apple's online store.

To those who have ordered their iPad Airs off the Apple website - did they all indicate a relatively long delivery time at the time of order, and then end up arriving a lot quicker than this? It seems like delivery was more like 4-5 days after ordering, in these cases - did the dates  get accurate only after submitting the order (eg, in later emails) or within the ordering process?

I'm keen on ordering one in the sale tomorrow but need a prompt delivery within 1 1/2 weeks (to Australia - not sure if this will be slower or quicker than NZ) - EVERY iPad Air indicates a shipping time of 5-7 working days (only older models like iPad 2 say shipping within 24 hours).

Many thanks
Jonathan

I think mine arrived two days before the Apple estimate and one day before the TNT estimate. It was shipped from Australia. They always estimate conservatively so they don't have hundreds of people ringing them if their item misses the delivery date by one day.

They call it a sale, but prices are unchanged, not much use if you just want a particular device.

Not really a sale, more a promo. Disappointing really.
