I ordered the new AirPods Max at about 7:30 this morning. The delivery estimate is Friday the 23rd which is fine as my existing AirPods Max will keep me going until then.

I hope you mean Pro. The AirPods max didn’t get an upgrade.

Anyone know if next year would be the year Apple will have to bring in USB-C ? Currently all devices at home including my MacPro are USB-C and charging stations set up in every room, car, office etc.

There are rumours that they will switch to USB-C for at least the Pro models next year.

But rumours of the next iPhones are always sketchy so far out from release, so bear that in mind.

Whoops, sorry, that's exactly what I meant.

Apple's marketing speak confuses me at times!

Max/Pro/Ultra then you also have the Pro Max in the phones. Maybe they'll release a ruggedised laptop next and call it the MacBook Ultra.

Edit: I presume the satellite messaging on the 14 phones isn’t enabled for this part of the world?

US and Canada only.

Forever or is the plan to extend the availability? (In time to use it as bait for the iPhone 15..)

Given that Spark are the only carrier that supports cellular Apple Watches, do you think they’ll sell them?

They used to sell everything from drones to watches but I note that their range has much diminished.

It'll be extended at some stage, but where and when is anyone's guess.

Just like the ECG functionality on the Apple Watch, there was a delay between NZ and other countries receiving it compared to the US.

Tis a shame NZ doesn't get the same trade in offers that NA gets, especially given the comparatively outrageous prices we pay upfront for the tech in the first place

I think its a good thing we don't. Trade in offers just encourage more upgrading leading to more and more e-waste.

Given the problem lies with corporations to sort out (and they aren't doing that any time soon), I won't feel bad about it.

Handsomedan:

I don't mind the looks or the slight bezel, but it's a very large case for a modest increase in screen size. I'll need to see one in person I think before I decide whether to drop the $ on one.

It's all hypothetical as I don't need a new watch this year, but I've been thinking about whether I would prefer the Ultra or the Series 8 in stainless steel.

Given that the price is very similar I initially thought that the Ultra would be a no-brainer, but now that I've thought about it some more I would probably go for the series 8 for a few reasons:

  • Ultra is far too big for my small wrists.
  • Series 8 looks more presentable for social occasions.
  • 5 bar waterproofing on series 8 is adequate for the ocean swimming that I do. 10 bar is really only needed for water sports or diving which I don't do.
  • A full marathon is the farthest I would ever run and the series 8 battery life is perfectly fine for this. I usually just do half marathons.
  • Series 8 with OS 9 will still have advanced sports features and metrics - e.g. backtrack, running power, virtual partner, vertical oscillation, etc.

I really like the Ultra but I see it as quite a niche product.

Still waiting for a cellular Apple Watch that supports MFi hearing aids with no phone present...

Samsung seem better at this although when I tried to find out what I would get for my 13Pro Max I got a return from the app they use for assessment telling me the phone wasn't eligible for trade in and despite at least a half dozen emails to the company handling it for them I never got a resolution before the end of the pre-order deals so although they offer more in theory it may only be theoretical if you cannot get it!
