i wanted a 32, called them at 4.30 and they said there was 2.
i show up at 5.15 and they had no more. :(
had to settle for a 16gb.
i could sell it. do you guys think its worth it?

ALSO! i just checked my account and it said 3gb on my account. i thought iphone 40 was 250mb?

anyway, for ur question,
vodafone gives 3gb data of plan on any iphone plan until first of september, so no matter which plans u choose ull get 3gb of data free for 1 september :D

Okay, there are 3 Vodafone stores at the Manukau Mall. Vodafone First Mobile at one end of the mall has/had 16 GBs in store when I was there at around 5pm. Basically I spent HOURS ringing around with most VF stores too busy to answer or those that answered mostly not having phones. Was advised by a seriously helpful CSR there over the phone that they do have 16 gigs but did not have mini-sims. If you don't mind handing out $30 to the VF Retail store around the other end of the mall to pick up your mini sim, they (First Mobile) are happy to sell you the 16 GB. I was almost gonna buy a 16 GB until I accidentally went to the VF Retail store first and learnt that a dude in there had reserved a 32GB at the First Mobile store but picked up a 32GB (along with a free micro sim) at the Retail Store instead. I walked down to the FM store with him and bought his reserved 32 GB.

All in all it was a good day. According to the helpful CSR at the FM store, 32 GBs are largely all out of stock all over the country. More stock might be coming next week. Pro tip: if you have the time and are able to drive further, I'd suggest targeting the stores in the lower socio-economic areas - they are a bit less likely to attract a massive queue of rich/"anything for an iPhone" types in no time at all.

I was 7th in line at DS Wireless on Broadway in Newmarket on launch day. I stayed up all night watching this forum, took a day of my annual leave and queued, faced the tv cameras etc. The guy in front of me got the last 32gb. I complained to Vodafone customer services about all the people on here boasting about how they were able to jump the queue by phoning ahead, even two or three phones! They responded the policy is that stores are absolutely not allowed to hold iPhones for customers and it is first in first served. They were going to send an email to all stores reiterating the policy. So based on that, when the second wave of phones were released, I foolishly ran to my local store to be told yes they have three but they're all allocated. I then phoned pretty much every store in Auckland (except Manukau because I don't want to be beaten up for my iPhone or have my car stolen) and all were allocated or out of stock. I've complained again to Vodafone that their policy is being ignored and forwarded some posts from this forum including the guy who bribed a Vodafone employee, still waiting for a reply on that one. And ironically I'm now on waiting lists at two stores. I went from being at the front of the queue to being at the bottom of some very long lists. I tried contacting DS Wireless where I queued on launch day on their Facebook page but they just removed my post within about 2 mins and just ignored me. I've never owned an iPhone and now I'm thinking maybe all this Apple hype is just causing too much hassle, my Apple experience so far has been pretty frustrating. The android phones look like they do the same things so I may get one of those instead. Just doing my research while there are no iPhones available.

Can you afford to buy one outright or do you need to go on a plan and get the subsidy to be able to afford it?

If you can afford one outright get it from the Apple store and then decide which phone company you want to give your money to. Much less stress and then you don't have to worry about dealing with this mess that Vodafone has created.

Yep I can afford to buy outright, and in my anger at Vodafone, I agonised over the decision to buy through the apple store as the website opened up. Took a gamble on there being previous orders coming through to Vodafone, and they did however, I didn't realise I still needed to be on a secret list at a store because of what Vodafone told me. I'm at a bit of a crossroad I suppose, Vodafone do give a large handset subsidy and you need to buy data for a smartphone anyways but I'd really rather just pay more to actually get one and know where I stand. But then don't want to wait 3 weeks plus 4-5 days on Apple either. This is why I find myself looking at the straight ahead road of an android phone.

I'm currently having a big discussion thread on my Facebook profile with friends over which Android phone to get instead of iPhone 4. The only thing that pains me is the amount of $$ I have in software/games from the App Store.
