it's here and transferring data now. The first impression is the size difference next to my 11 Pro, not massive but definitely noticeable.

Nice! Which model did you order? 12 or 12 Pro?

12 pro, love the new look.

Is anyone moving from a XS Max to a 12 Max and, if so, do you have any observations around the size difference? According to the specs the 12 Max is taller and wider but thinner. I'm curious about the real world practicalities of that as the XS Max is about as big as I would want to go.

My iPhone 12 should arrive this morning, currently with the DHL driver. I got my blue Apple silicon case on Wednesday.

Please take that warranty sticker off your fridge, it's triggering my OSD!

My iPhone 12 Pro arrived this morning - got it all setup using the Quick Transfer and it is working well. I've transitioned from an iPhone 7 so the screen seems huge to me for a slightly larger phone. I do have to get used to the gestures required without the physical home button. However, pretty impressed so far.

A colleague has the Samsung Galaxy S20 ultra and has been trolling me about the lack of 120Hz display. Said my phone will be laggy compared to his. I let him have a go and he didn't notice much difference in the scrolling speed. He was blown away by the photo quality though.

Hope everyone got their delivery today.

We ordered a 12 directly from Apple for Mrs Code a few days ago. We are away from home but would have been back home for the delivery date originally indicated. However Apple have shipped it early - which ordinarily would be great - but it will arrive two days before we get home.

Does anyone know what DHL do if there’s no-one home to sign for the delivery? There’s nothing on their website about this. Presumably we will have to go and pick it up somewhere - but their site doesn’t even give their locations. We live on Auckland North Shore. I know we will find out in time - but I’m keen to know now. I’m wondering if there’s any way to ask them to delay the delivery.

If you have the tracking number, you should be able to log in to the DHL website and choose an option eg. Hold at depot, Deliver on X date etc.

Failing that, just give them a call or email. I’ve always found DHL easy to deal with in NZ. They once held my iMac for me when I ordered it while overseas for a few weeks (it was a custom order so a long lead time, hence not waiting until I was home to order it).

Thanks. I found a DHL app and have logged in etc. My tracking number shows the change options (delivery date, address etc) as greyed out - says ‘due to shipper’s requirements’ i.e. Apple. There’s a DHL 0800 number so I’ll call them on Monday morning.

I wonder if these phones and magnetic cases near peoples wallets is going to cause problems with eftpos cards etc.

I think it’s been well-publicised that the magnets won’t affect cards with chips - but play havoc with magnetic-stripe cards like hotel room cards, access cards etc. That’s why Apple are sort of OK to sell the magnetic wallet thingy that attaches to iPhone 12 cases.

So probably not good near your Countdown Onecard and Fly Buys card.

I saw a review of the wallet thing, and it just drops off when people put it in their pocket, due to it being pushed off as it goes into a pocket.
As NZ is such a a big eftpos country, I suspect it could be more of a problem in NZ than other countries. I guess we will find out as people start to get them.
