I'm also a 2degrees customer... but how come you don't want to buy from telecom or vodafone even if it is outright?

I'm with 2D as well and want to use the same strategy.
I called a few of the usual suspects today, and none of them knew either way if they'd have stock to sell or not. So I'll order from Apple as soon as I can. You're definitely right, they don't charge your card until they ship, and you can cancel any time before that happens.

this will be the first time im buying an iPhone.......... I have been told that the apple website does not include tax even though it says (do I have to pay for shipping), and how long does it normally take to ship? One last thing... what is this card thing you're talking about?

No good reason - just brand loyalty and as I said I'm not in a hurry to get one.

If you're really enthused about getting one ASAP then I don't think there's any technical reason why you couldn't buy one from one of the other telcos as long as they're selling them outright.

I see Telecom have dropped the iPhone 5s/c from their list of phones available on pre-pay, so they will only be available (initially), on a plan?

I see the price of the iPhone 5 has dropped to $869 for the 16Gb model.

I was hoping to get a couple of pre-pay iPhone 5c phones for Christmas – would a iPhone 5 be a good choice too? I can’t see hardly any difference between that and the 5c

Because you are desperate and they have the phones and dictate terms.   If you don't want to go on a plan, the next desperate guy behind you will.

I wonder though if telecom will make you go onto a fixed term contract as opposed to their open term plan.   I would reject such a deal as the phone subsidy is less than the extra you pay in additional recurring fees over the contract term -- for exactly the same service.     It is like 'buy one, pay 30% extra for another' type deal.

Differences are minimal. Slightly bigger\better battery, improved FaceTime camera and more LTE bands. Still a great phone.

Are the new iPhones (5S and 5C) Cat 4 4G? The iPhone5 is only Cat3 I think.

Anyone know what is happening with launch in CHCH?

Will it be just Vodafone and Telecom in the Ricarrton Mall?

11 Hours away from launch and still not details on full pricing with plan from Vodafone or Telecom????

Is it going to be one of those come line up for 6hours and we will tell u the plan just as we get to you in the line so you will have no option or time to think?

I notice voda on twitter have said they will have a very limited number of outright purchases available at Auckland launch but contract only in stores tomorrow. Telecom not responding to twitter requests for info...

I went to the Telecom store in Auckland cbd, they said it's available on plan (Upgrade or new contract) only and there will be more information available after 4pm.
