I airplay from the Apple TV3 and 4 to my receiver using an older Airport express. Never had any issues with lag or sync issues with picture/audio. This would be a cheaper option that buying a new receiver.

sir1963:  The odd show on Netflix with my ATV3 we had sound sync issues where the sound was about 1/2 out of sync.

This is my one major concern with the new Apple TV.

When we use our ATV2 or ATV3 hooked up to our 2013 Panasonic Plasma (TH-P50ST60Z), the sound gradually lags behind the video, until after a couple of hours of viewing, the audio is noticeably out of sync. I initially thought this was an issue with the HDMI->Optical out path the sound was taking to our AV receiver. I have all our equipment going via HDMI to the TV, with audio from the TV to the AV Receiver via Optical. But by chance a few weeks ago, I discovered that the AV Receiver can be taken out of the equation, and the problem still persists if audio is played directly through the TVs speakers.

This problem only affects the Apple TV, and Audio from all other sources (PS3, PS4, MySky) are fine. I "solved" it by connecting the ATV directly to the AV Receiver via Optical out. And this is what has me concerned. Because the new ATV doesn't have Optical out, I'll possibly have no redress (apart from upgrading the AV receiver) if this problem remains in the new model. I'm hoping that because it uses an entirely different OS, that it won't be an issue with it, but it still feels like a gamble.

I had  only notice the sync issues with Netflix, anything I stream from the iTunes sharing works fine.
And I have only noticed it 2-3 times on Netflix over the last 4-5 months.

We have a very simple setup with the ATV hooked to the TV via HDMI and that it is, no surround sound etc etc etc.
Its about as basic as you can get.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Another thought is that there may be an issue with that particular HDMI input on the TV. Next time it happens, I should try plugging into a different port and see if the problem remains. That could be another cheap workaround.

I'd actually love to upgrade the receiver, but that's a luxury we can't afford right now. Apart from having no HDMI inputs, it also has only one Optical in. So our current workaround involves a cheap Optical switch which requires manual interaction to change source every time we watch the ATV.

We get the sync issues on all content played via the ATV. Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and local & remote content streamed via iTunes. I think its definitely something funky going on in the Panny though, as the same ATV hooked up to an older Panasonic LCD TV works fine. Thats why it occurs to me that I should try some HDMI port swapping next time it happens.

We upgraded from Apple tv 2 last weekend and loving the new one. Downloaded the 3Now app last night but it crashed every time I tried to open it even after a restart. Running Unotelly and currently logged in via my US iTunes account (primarily so we can use Siri which is incredible) so wonder if there's some issue there? Will tackle that later today

I'm logged in US account and 3Now ran fine for the short time I tested it apart from its sub optimal resolution. I use bind9 to only forward relevant traffic to unotelly though, 3now traffic would be going to Spark DNS.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Go to the UnoTelly Dynamo page and make sure the channel option that contains 3Now is set to New Zealand. Annoyingly it's also the one that has the Australian channels like the TenPlay so I'll need to switch back and forth via the UnoTelly app if I want to watch both.

Edited to add that it should not make any difference which iTunes account you're logged in with.

If you are in NZ you don't have to set the 3Now app to New Zealand. Thats only for when you are outside of the country.

Sweet, so the fact sky, TVNZ and 3 are on different settings doesn't matter if you're in NZ? That's useful!

Shame Getflix doesn't seem to work like that - if you that channel group set to US then 3 Now thinks you're trying to access from US.

3Now also doesn't seem to work with unblock-us - if anyone does have it working please let me know.

Mine didn't work, but that's probably because I had to change my location to USA before Willow TV would let me log in. I've cancelled that service now, though, since the streaming quality was pretty bad. So I'll put location back to NZ and try it out :)

Edited to add that I changed my ATV location back to NZ, and updated Dynamo on Channel 2 back to Australia but it still won't play 3Now - I can get right up to selecting the episode I want to view but then get the "error loading content" message. No biggie - easy enough to switch Dynamo on the rare occasion I want to look at 3Now.

3Play seems to have problems on the Apple TV at the moment. The Smart-TV app on the Samsung TV here works as it should (no matter how the setup in Unotelly), while on the AppleTV there is a lot of content that comes up with "error loading content" no matter what the setup.
