I wonder if these phones and magnetic cases near peoples wallets is going to cause problems with eftpos cards etc.

I think it’s been well-publicised that the magnets won’t affect cards with chips - but play havoc with magnetic-stripe cards like hotel room cards, access cards etc. That’s why Apple are sort of OK to sell the magnetic wallet thingy that attaches to iPhone 12 cases.

So probably not good near your Countdown Onecard and Fly Buys card.

I recommend downloading the Countdown or Flybuys app. Stocard app is excellent too. From my experience, almost every stores can scan your phone and accept Apple Pay now.

FYI - Woolworth in Aus have integrated their rewards card with Apple Wallet and it works with NFC, I hope I will be available in NZ soon...

Hope so! I note the EFTPOS terminals in Countdown say "Present or Swipe OneCard" (and have done for a while).  The Countdown app and it's virtual OneCard works fine, but I'd rather get rid of it and use Apple Wallet tbh. I will say that it's aisle locator feature is kinda handy though.

My friend received his iPhone 12 on Friday and has commented accessories seem to be very short supply. The Apple cases are out of stock everywhere, and even third party stuff is pretty few and far between. He says (anecdotally) it feels like there is less available at launch than there was when he got his iPhone 11 last year.

We ordered a 12 and it’s coming from Sydney - like everything I’ve ever ordered directly from Apple.

A couple of days later we also ordered an iPad Air 4 - and that’s now been shipped too but is coming from Hongfugin Precision Electronics in mainland China.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Are you able to post screenshots of a 4G and 5G speedtest?

Do some Countdown cards have a NFC chip? Else wise I don’t see how “Present One Card” on the eftpos terminal would be of any use.

The terminal reads “Present or Swipe your one card” hence my confusion by the “present”

Yes I agree, I have also tried to scan the barcode many times too - just like NW does with their clubcards

Staying on topic, I wonder if these supermarkets would ever implement NFC versions of these cards to use with apple pay

The Countdown self service checkout won’t accept the barcode but the manned checkouts do. Very weird.

One of the reasons I prefer to shop at New world.

They definitely accept the barcode (from the app) at Countdown self-service but I've found it hit and miss depending on the terminal.

I'm also wodnering if the ability to use NFC is there and just not used - based on the "Present or Swipe" messaging.

Wow that 5G is very fast!

I estimate that it will be 5 years before the rural Wairarapa sees it (based on how long 4G took) so I can look forward to it on the iPhone 17 Pro!

(Just after 6G launches!)
