UrbanGrafix: 32GB will just be $200 more and outright purchase will be the exact same as the 3GS LAUNCH

Were prepay customers allowed to walk into Vodafone stores last year and buy a 3GS? Because at least one store is saying that prepay customers must buy online on Friday.

Prepay had to purchase online last time (not sure about non vodafone stores), this was in the initial stages.

I think I save money going onto a plan but feel like going prepay just to spite Vodafone for some really weird treatment of their customers.

I think I'll be signing a contract and cancelling it if they prevent outright purchases or new Prepay customers. Probably end up being the same cost.

It used to be. But they added GST onto their Early Termination Charges so it is now about $26 more than the subsidy you receive.

iPhone 3GS subsidy for $40 plan for 24 months was $480.

The ETC for 1-6 month termination is $450 (now plus GST).

I'm not saying this would put you off doing it, I'm just saying.

Don't forget that in addition to the cancel fee you still have to pay for your first month of the plan.

Of course, but you do get usage out of the months that you pay.

Assuming similar pricing:

At the moment through the website it's:
$1379 for a 32GB 3GS outright or:

$899 on iPhone 40 plan with a $506.25 cancellation fee and $40 for first month= $1445.25

$66.25 premium to avoid waiting until next week.

You must have been lucky as they specifically stated that to buy outright it had to be done online and that anyone buying outright in stores would most likely be told no,

I'll probably do this just so I can absolutely abuse the 3G data for a few days while the novelty factor is still there. Then I can swap SIMs back out & cancel the plan when I'm done.

The main Vodafone retail stores in Chch have told me they will only offer on account initially as well.

You can sign up to any on account plan right? At the moment the mega 20 plan is $40/month with a $60 phone subsidy and a $40 early termination fee. This is a net saving isn't it? Any holes in this logic?

Just a small note, I haven't looked at that $40 fee but check if it includes GST or not.

Double check if they will require you to sign on to an IPHONE plan too.
