People who purhcased the ipad 2 when it was launched have had good value out of it. I still use mine, although I have noticed some bright patches appearing on the screen around the edge.

That is true, however if you look at the versions both came with, and what ios version they are supported up to, the ipad 2 has been supported for double the time of the if ipad 1. The ipad shipped with ios 3, and went up to ios 5 (2 versions), over about 1-2 years. Whereas the ipad 2 shipped with ios 4, and is supported up to at least ios 8. (4 versions) , that's 3+ years of ios support. That is quite a difference considering the ipad 1 is only 1 year older. I would be annoyed if I had purchased an ipad 1, compared to the support ipad 2 has got.

i installed this on my 5S - heaps of apps dont work including Rdio, Whatsapp(crashes heaps) and a few more.

i was hoping Siri had been updated for NZ - but still doesn't work for food! but navigation is working but im not sure if this is due to me changing the region on the phone to the US.

Everything else is very average.... if you were thinking of trying it - wait for B2

TimA: I will definitely go0 back to Apple. I cant stand this android mess. Samsung Roms are cluttered with junk and custom ones have issues. Just me or is IOS the only thing that works simply?

Apple gives fairly decent longterm (3 years) OS upgrades and patches. Annoyingly my iPad 1 is an exception, but they underspec'd the RAM in the first generation.

I've been discouraging Android when clients have asked for years. OS updates have been sporadic at best for most devices, and if the OS has been customized by/for the carrier then your chances of getting updates are much worse.

What really brassed me off was a legit app for Android that defeated the requirement for a lock PIN when mandated by corporate mail servers.

Still, if I ever find where Steve Jobs ashes are, I'll go and insert an SD card to give him more storage in the afterlife. Tim Cooke had better not bend over anywhere near me or he might get a storage upgrade too!

"Wi-Fi calling" sounds awesome...

I do wonder though if vodafone will let them undercut the femtocell I bought (2nd hand) and can't use on my crappy 1Mb internet.... also wonder what speed it'll need to be effective... if skype can work...???

Is 'wifi calling' the feature that everyone's been talking about which routes calls via your nearby iPhone, or are you referring to making calls directly over wifi?

Wi-Fi Calling is for making calls over Wi-Fi, and requires operator support. I've forgotten what the "computer pairing" thing is called but I know what you're talking about there.

If you recommend Android for updates on Nexus, you might want to read this - unless 18 months is a fine period for updates.

think the word they're using is "Continuity"

"Continuity also means that users will be able to start and receive phone calls and text messages on any device thanks to interoperability between an iPhone and other iOS or OS X machines.
