$800+ for a phone design that is, what, 5 years old?
Externally yes. Internally it's the same as an 11 so a bit of a beast for the $.
I can see businesses buying these. A reason the iPhone 7 is still so popular is because of it's relatively low price (I know our company kept buying them until this year). The 8 & XR were starting to push what companies would reasonably spend on a standard employees mobile device so keeping a lower cost SKU will keep them from needing to look at alternatives. (iOS is a much better suited OS for enterprise than Android)

That said, I want a small phone and there is no android option anymore, so the move to iOS looks inevitable. So when my Galaxy S10e needs replacing, this is a realistic option.
Where did you get the 5 year old design from ?
Its using the same processor as the iPhone 11 + other massively updated internals.
He talking the physical design. Which I don't quite understand. How revolutionary can you make the physical appearance of a phone these days?
I think its a very compelling offer for a lot of people. You're essentially picking up a phone that will be supported for 4-5 yrs with ~80% of the performance/features of a premium handset for 50% of the price of a premium handset.

I agree
Bloody hell, my TV design is 10 years old - a big rectangle....I'm not going to buy one till they come up with a new shape!!
There's nothing wrong with the design of it IMO, not everyone wants a slab of glass in their pockets - also some people really want the physical home button on the front for fingerprint. The lack of a notch ZOMG HOW COULD THEY?!?!!?

My old SE died late last year (it got HOT, VERY VERY HOT) , I was holding out for the new SE.
Needed the phone as we have no landline these days so ended up buying the iPhone 11
May give the 11 to the wife and get an SE2 for myself, I prefer the small form factor and touch ID.

Yeah I';m tossing up between an SE2 or 11...I do prefer the touch id...but wonder if I'd want the extra cameras. That said I do tend to use a mirrorless camera, so maybe I shouldn't bother.

I have a Nikon SLR , but I use my iPhone most as it is the camera I always have with me.

Hopefully this is super successful and a similar Android phone is made. My wife would love a phone this size, but not Apple.
There is always the religious element.

I know it’s disgusting how they are selling a phone with the lastest processor in a form factor that is very popular at a relatively reasonable price.
Will no one think of the children?
Sucks the currency has gone bad.
When iPad Mini 5 came out in March 2019, it started at US$399 - in NZ $679. Price hasn't changed.
Now the SE 2nd Gen starts at US$399 - in NZ $799.

The internals are all upgraded.
What do you expect? Smartphone aesthetics have not changed dramatically since even the iPhone 5 . Sure, they get bigger to a certain extent, bezels shrink, but, that is all tinkering with the 'base' design.
These days it is even hard to tell the difference between brands when they are in cases.

One reason for designing newer phones with smaller bezels, is that it can allow the physical outer casing of the phone to decrease in size. The problem is that the reverse has happened in many cases, and they have increased the screen size and kept the physical phone around the same. This phone isn't really any smaller in physical size than an iphone Xx / notched design, but they have a smaller screen, and it does look somewhat dated. But still not a bad option. However it is not as small and easy to use one handed like the original iphone SE / iphone 5 form factor. Also not as cheap as when the first SE came out, but that may be because NZs dollar is very weak now. But the first SE did drop in price after a period of time. Just wouldn't want to drop this one with te glass back, as I ave heard it is very expensive to repair the back on glass backed iphones compared to glass backed samsung S series / notes. I use one of the original SEs and it is still a great phone, just the battery isn't great. If I was to get a new one, I would go for one of the new models that has a high capacity battery in it. Really the big benefit of iphones is how long ios is supported on them, compared to android.

How about a phone without bezels the size of Texas?
