Any word on the new iPad release dates for NZ? How behind the initial release date for such Apple products does NZ tend to be? I'm hoping it'll be available by the Xmas hols, but is this likely?

It can vary - sometimes a few weeks, other times a few months. The iPhone was about 6 weeks behind the rest of the world this time around, so I'd expect the iPads to be around the same.

NZ's omission from the (large) list of first wave countries is a bit perplexing. From what I have read, there should be a plentiful supply of iPad Air's at launch. Even stranger that they have officially released the pricing of this device already without a set release date.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did release here on Friday too, and was just a mistake we were left off the list. If not, hopefully it is not too far away...

I wasn't aware they'd released pricing for NZ - are you able to point me in the direction of this information? Ta...

Here is a link, straight from the horse's mouth.  Even the Mini with Retina prices are listed.

The fact you can still buy the iPad with retina display from the NZ store would suggest that the list is correct and we haven't just been left off by mistake.
From the comments at the apple quarterly results announcement, I'd say we won't be getting the retina mini til next year.
I think the air will release here sometime before christmas though.

Good point.  We shouldn't be too far behind though.

Thanks for that; interesting to see that prices have gone up $20 for the equivalent model compared to the 4th generation's launch prices (table deleted - format wouldn't stick)

I'm still hoping for a holiday release time here, primarily as it may mean some good prices, given that some places like Warehouse Stationery do sometimes offer a good discount off iPads (well, a good discount as far as Apple products go...).

Many have tried to convince me away from purchasing an iPad, but having looked at Pricespy today I see the options for Andriod 4G-spec'd tablets are still very limited, so I guess it'll still be that 4G 64GB model... %MCEPASTEBIN%

I was trying to figure out why we got left off that list too... maybe it's because they don't want a new product to launch in New Zealand first, and instead give that to Oz. Since we apparently screwed up an iPhone launch :-P

Oh, disappointing. I read in the NBR that the Air would be available on Friday, with the Mini later in November. In fact... here you go. Pricing and release info after the product summary. Either they got that wrong or Apple accidentally left us off the press release.

Edited to fix hyperlink.

The price increase doesn't make sense considering how strong the NZ dollar is. If anything, I would have expected the price to have gone down a bit. I don't know who is really going ot purhcase a 16GB one, I think you would want 32 GB minimum. My 5 year old ipod touch is 16GB, and that has never had enough storage, and many ipad apps are now well over 1GB in size.
They make their money on making huge margins on the storage, and as people can't upgrade storage after purchasing it, they have to buy an entire new device. I think this is possibily one reason they don't have expandable memory slots, pretty clever of them.

I am trying to decide whether to get the 32GB mini or air. $150 difference in price. I think the air is possibly more usable if you already have a smart phone, especially for watching videos.
