Personally I hate this trend of 'no bezels'. I have fingers. The screen works by touching it. With fingers. If there's nowhere to put my fingers while securely holding onto the fragile expensive machine that isn't screen then a) I'm obscuring some screen, and b) I'm touching some screen. Bring back the bezel!

@saltynz I never cover the full bezel with my thumb when I'm holding my current iPad Pro anyway. Not from any effort, but because my thumb naturally holds and covers covers the edge of the iPad for the best grip. So with the size of the bezels on the new iPad Pro I can't see an issue as there is still enough space for securely holding the device without obscuring anything.

I hear you! I thought I'd love having a larger screen in a similar sized body as my last phone, and much of the time I do - but I'm aware of how many times I'm having to contort my hand and fingers to avoid touching the screen accidentally, or finding that I have indeed done that and I've opened some random app. Having a case on, adding width to the phone, does help...

I find it odd that they have removed the SD Card slot on the Mac Mini.

Surely, for photogs etc you'd want one there, rather than mucking about with cables or what-have-you?

Thank you for that piece of education, never heard of Godwin's Law. But yes it is approximately true though.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Unless i'm holding my ipad like a controller, I use the palm of my left hand near the bezel with all fingers behind to hold it up (right hand free).

I do notice for some people their finger contact start about halfway down their fingerprint. As a claw grip on mice I'm always using the tip of the finger for grip contact for a lot of tech.

A mate of mine is like mentioned, he uses the pads of his paws to grip things and navigate touch panels. It gave him a bit of grief when he tried to use my Vive wands as you need to be a bit precise on some controls to avoid hitting a different zone.

Back to today's announcement, it is interesting to see still no mention of Airpower. It is beginning to look increasingly likely that the whole project has been mothballed.

I've seen the same (engineering) jobs advertised over and over, I guess the pool is rather small in NZ. I would be interested if they were either remote or not in Auckland.

I like the loss of bezels on Laptops, TVs and Monitors but I still like a small bezel on Tablets to help with gripping the device. Phones I always use with a cover so not an issue.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Interesting to see a design language that borrows from the MS world, rather than the other way around, with the iPad Pro - that squared-off design really does look like a slimmed-down Surface pro, in my opinion.

I like it...don't get me wrong - I like the Surface, design-wise, too.

Particularly interested to see the ASK goes all the way up the back of the device, too. Will make it unnecessary to purchase a back cover, like I have on my iPad Pro with ASK.

So who's buying/has already bought anything announced during this keynote? We've bought a space grey 256 gb (for me) and a 512 gb for my significant other. I am going to give serious consideration to using an Ipad as a laptop replacement when I travel, so I've bought the folio whilst my wife has bought the pencil and just a normal folio case.

Whilst I am annoyed at the increased prices by Apple, I do think some of the people criticising the price rises are missing the point about Apple's current strategy (whether the strategy is valid or not is another matter). Not that Apple ever cared deeply about affordability but it's becoming obvious that they no longer even care to maintain a facade of affordability for their flagship products. Their prices are still relatively easy to swallow for high income earners in first world countries or those prepared to spread payments across a period to chase the latest and greatest in tech. Anyone who's more focused on value or aren't attracted by flagship features won't buy their flagship products. And they are clearly expecting people to hold on to their devices much longer across the board, so are looking to boost the profit margin on each sale.

I'll probably get the Mac Mini with i7, 512gb ssd and 8gb ram (and purchase additional ram at a reasonable price). This will likely replace my gaming PC I never use, other than it's one of the few lan connected devices I use for downloading things. As the MBP is my primary device I find Windows 10 horrible to use.

Already got an iPad pro, it'll never be a laptop replacement for my MBP. I tried when my MBP was in for repair and the multitasking experience is horrible.

But unlike some other manufacturers, they enable that. My 2013-vintage iPad Air still gets OS updates, although I do expect iOS 12 to be the last. It is noticeably laggy, but still quite usable for all the things I bought it for. I am considering replacing it within the next six months but only because the home button is starting to fail. At closer to 6 years between replacements (not to mention the bigger screen), that puts the higher price into some perspective.

OTOH I was somewhat annoyed that there was no iPhone SE 2 at the last launch - as I have an iPad already, I don't need or want a huge phone, and every Android phone I've touched in that price range (apart from being ... Android...) has been a laggy POS.

And from all accounts Apple is quite happy to continue to support older devices because more devices in circulation means more opportunity to chase service revenue - e.g. Apple Music, iCloud, movies, Apple Pay, etc.
