Apple held an event this morning and announced new stuff:

Mac Mini - updated (NZ$1,449.00 to NZ$1,999.00)

iPad Pro's 11-inch (NZ$1,399.00) and 12.9-inch (NZ$1,749.00)

MacBook Air 13-inch (NZ$2,149.00 to NZ$2,499.00)

Also Apple released OS updates: iOS 12.1, watchOS 5.1, tvOS 12.1 and macOS 10.14.1 to the public. Today’s updates bring a slew of new features such as Group FaceTime, dual SIM support for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, and new emoji's.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

So I am seriously thinking about selling my 1 year old Macbook Pro, buying a top Spec iPad Pro for my "everyday" computer faffing (videos, web, email, photo editing, bit of gaming) and then replacing my ancient iMac with a new MacMini to run my media centre and proper photo management etc.

USB-C on the new iPad makes the decision not to put USB-C on the new iPhones even crazier.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the lightning port long term. Some commentators believe that Apple is aspiring towards a port-free iPhone but, as I pointed out in another thread recently, this would piss off a lot of people who depend on using a cable to connect to Carplay. I think they will have to implement USB-C on next year's iPhone and stick with it for at least a few years.

Back to today's announcement, it is interesting to see still no mention of Airpower. It is beginning to look increasingly likely that the whole project has been mothballed.

It would be interesting to know if they have spent a few dollars and improved the liquid protection on their main boards. Something that should be a given on an ultra mobile PC

But now they can charge $49 for a USB-C to Lightning cable for charging iPhones from iPads :)

Not particularly a fan of Apple (nothing against them either), but saw they seem to be saying they are somehow much greener products. I naturally assume this means they will be much easier to repair...

The home button on my iPad Air is dying so I think I'm going to be replacing it within months ... but damn, $1700 is steep. OTOH to put it into context I don't remember exactly when I got it but it was before the Air 2 was released at the end of October 2014, which means I have had it for at least 4 years, possibly closer to 5. And I use it constantly so it isn't wasted.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

Have just ordered new 11” iPad Pro to replace 4yo Air 2. The 256GB LTE model I ordered was $1,800+ which is deep-breath territory - but I’m not too phased because I’m an iPad tragic. I too use it for everything (but not work-related because I’m retired). This is easily 8+ hours/day, 7 days/week and it’s great to have a beautiful, late-model device that is used constantly and appreciated. Might be harder to justify if it was an expensive luxury that I used infrequently. That’s how I rationalise it to myself anyway.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

This is the refresh I've been waiting for.

iPads, Mac Mini, and Macbook Airs were all long overdue for a decent revamp.

Not a fan of the prices though. I might wait another year and see if they come down a bit (either through sales, model shuffles, or exchange rate adjustments).

Hnnnnnng, that ipad screen....

And bugger it if they switch to usb-c on the iphone next year. They spent so long on the lightning port already I would have thought they invented lightning 2(tm)

Here's a comparison on what the ipad pro changes are

https://www.cnet.com/news/apple-sprinkles-iphone-x-magic-on-ipad-pro-macbook-air-but-challenges-remain/

There was a price jump in both USD and when combined with the falling NZ Dollar a big jump in NZD pricing,

I mean the entry wifi 12 inch 64 has gone from $1300 to $1750 NZD, while a LTE 512 has jumped from $1999 to $2600 NZD :(

wow you can spend up to $7,269.00 on a mac mini if you want all the upgrades. I would love to replace my 2011 mini, but i think ill wait till it dies, its mostly a plex server anyway and its still ticking.

They need to really have worked out the thermals in that thing. An i7 Coffeelake at load will choke hard just like it did in the macbook. Is also partly the reason why they haven't got 9th gen in, if they can't even cool 8th gen 9th will roast.

Anyone from Spark know when the iPad's will be available to buy through their site on or in store?  Apple's site says the iPad's are available from next week (the 6th Nov).
