Does this mean Christchurch will also be doing mid night launch tomorrow night?
I thought it was public holiday on Friday, so no one was gonna open.
Im pretty keen to get one.

HI Cathy

Friday here is Show Day, but its like a Saturday, shops open, Cup Carnival trots are on, etc. So, whatever is usually open Saturdays, will be open this Friday

I'd say they should considering how long Apple has staggered out the release date.

According to Telecom Dunedin Store staff they say they have 100ish iphone 4s's coming in for midnight launch not sure how accurate but thats still way better than what vodafone are doing i remember on launch day in the dunedin stores they had 30-40 phones between 2 stores. I even know a keen vodafone retail staff thats gonna line up in the telecom queue because she doesnt even know wtf vodafone are doing yet interms of pricing and avaliability

Additionally, with the phones available at Telecom shops nationwide later that day, there must be plenty to go around.

Who’s going to be Telecom’s first?

If you’re one of the dedicated who plan to buy at 12:01, we’ve got a few things planned to make your wait as cosy as possible.  Each store will have entertainment, food and drinks - free for those who register on the day, at the store to buy an iPhone.

*applause* Many people hate Apple just because of the hype. NZ'ers especially tend to vocally douse anyone who gets remotely excited about anything they don't personally see as vaguely important or even necessary to themselves. For those Apple fans who've missed out on the hype of Apple product launches internationally, only to have our faces rubbed in it by international media coverage, it's great to see a supplier finally getting in on the fun. And that's precisely what it is.

Well done Telecom, well done indeed.

I believe its Vodafone in NZ that certainly has not helped Apples image with several years of massively botched launches. I hope they are watching Telecom do it and learn from it.

Interesting that it's the eve of the launch and Vodafone is still "under an NDA" with no detail of plans or launch events. Looks like it's 2010 all over again for Vodafone!

Obviously its a guess. I am really disappointed anyway. Ive been on Vodafone for 5 years, and for the last 2 years i have not been happy with the way they do things for the iPhone launch.

It is entirely probably that Apple have let Telecom do the launch for the 4S, therefore VF aren't able to do anything until thats happened.

So although they may be able to offer the device competitively  they can't do so until Telecoms launch.

It's been repeatedly said (around every product launch date) that Apple have very tight  controls over all things apple, so I wouldn't expect to see any great pricing differences across Telcos.

Who’s going to be Telecom’s first?

From 12:01 AM on Friday, November 11, our customers will be able to purchase the iPhone 4S from our Telecom concept stores in central Auckland (167 Victoria St West) and central Wellington (42 Willis St).

We’ll also be open at that time in Christchurch (Moorhouse Ave) and Dunedin (101 George Street).  The iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS will be available from all our other stores from 9:00 AM that day.

If you’re one of the dedicated who plan to buy at 12:01, we’ve got a few things planned to make your wait as cosy as possible.  Each store will have entertainment, food and drinks - free for those who register on the day, at the store to buy an iPhone.

In central Auckland (167 Victoria St West) we’re holding a pre-launch event for customers who are purchasing an iPhone with live entertainment by People of Paris and Josh Leys, food and drink, and special guest Dan Carter who will help entertain customers in the lead up to midnight. Dan will hand over the very first iPhone purchased from Telecom to the lucky customer!

Excited? Registrations begin from 6pm and entertainment starts at 7pm. Head to the Telecom Building, Central Auckland (167 Victoria St West), L2 Conference Centre.

For more information on pricing and plans for iPhone on Telecom XT visit www.telecom.co.nz/iPhone

I have been talking with some of the people running the event and there WILL be an event at Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin where people who choose to queue for the store opening at 12:01 should have pizza and coffee's being supplied around 9pmish in Wellington (Still working on the details for CHC/DUN).  I think the finer details are being worked out.  But I can confirm that the Christchurch and Dunedin retail stores will be opening at 12:01.

Makes you wonder if Vodafone are even interested in selling the iPhone if they don't update their prices.

I understand they 'may' have a reason as to why they haven't announced anything yet, but to leave the iPhone 4 and 3GS on their website at those prices seems really silly and just sends out the wrong message to potential customers.
