Well I am pleased I didn't wait. I preorder with telecom. I need data more than texts. Plus I like never dropping to GPRS.

trig42: Good plans from both of them.

I wonder if VF will do the same as they did for the IP4, let you go on a smart85 for 6 months and change back to the smart 45 for no penalty (that's how I bought the wife's one)

No transfers for full 24 months

Not possible, here is a quote on their site
* No Plan Transfers: From 11 November 2011 any customer buying an iPhone on a Smart plan contract for 24 months will not be able to transfer plans within the 24 month term.

** If you're on a 1, 12 or 24 month term you’ll get 1GB of data each month for 6 months while you remain on the plan. 1GB Add-On available for $20 per month after that period.

Nope. There's a note on their website that says you can't transfer/change plans within the 24 month term.

What's hilarious is that VF still haven't updated the details for the old iPhones (iPhone 4 8GB, 16Gb, 32Gb and 3GS), so you can choose to buy an iPhone 4 8GB for $799 on a $45/month plan, or an iPhone 4S 32GB for the same price. Can't see too many iPhone 4's being sold at that price!

My wife will be buying a 32GB iPhone 4S. The choice for us is Telecom $849 upfront, $40/month for 300 txts, 50 mins, and 500MB or data, or Vodafone $799 upfront, $45/month, 2500 txts, 100 mins, and 250MB (with 1GB extra a month for six months). Vodafone looks like the slightly better plan to start with, but I think Telecom still wins, because it seems to have the better performance (from what I've heard). Less data for the first six months, but averages at the same amount over 24 months. And the overall cost is less for Telecom ($849 + $960 = $1809) than Vodafone ($799 + $1080 = $1879).

No transfers? Great I'll just terminate, pay the exit fee and then take my business elsewhere

For those who have pre-ordered with Telecom, what's the deal about pick up or shipping? Do you have a choice about getting it shipped to you or can you choose to collect it from a local store? The latter would be ideal for me...

You have to wait for it to arrive at the address you specified unfortunately, you can't pick up in-store.

pretty poor by Vodafone IMHO

If you want a 64GB phone with 1 gb of data a month your tco will be

that's a pretty significant difference

Hi,

Those fees dont make sense.

It says if you are on a 24 months smart plan and u terminate it at any month it is 50% * your monthly pay price * months remaining.

With the old iphone plan which I am on for a year, I called into Vodafone they said it was $195 for my 24 months $40/month plan.

The two calculations dont match up together...

I just don't understand what kind of genius thinks that after purchasing a smart phone, you're happy with dumb data allocations.

The only thing that kept me with Voda for so long, even during those periods where there were serious reliability issues with iPhone on the network, was the 3GB plan. Now there's a 1GB addition for six months. maybe it will be extended, maybe it won't.

The concept of a free calling number, mobile or landline, is excellent. The minutes are attractive. Free voicemail, it's about time. But the data just rules Vodafone out of contention for me.

I completely agree, I'm struggling to figure them out (why they can't just provide a table is beyond me...)

If I'm right the equation works out like this:

45 (monthly cost of plan) * 22 (number of months left) * 0.5 = $495 to cancel after 2 months
