Yeah, I am also tossing up between the Air and the Mini. As a female, the handbag-friendly size of the Mini is a drawcard, plus you can double your storage for the same price by choosing the Mini over the Air. I think the only thing that would bother me with the smaller screen might be full-site browsing on Safari (as opposed to mobile sites) - that might be a bit on the squinty side unless I want to be constantly swiping back and forth on zoomed page.

Currently I have a 32GB gen3 (which I love) and still have 7GB available, so do I need the extra storage enough to compromise on the screen size? I guess, looking at that Apple roll-out list, that I've got plenty of time to decide. *pout*

Just wondering if anyones buying the ipad air direct off USA apple online store on release day and getting it forwarded to here??

littleheaven: Oh, disappointing. I read in the NBR that the Air would be available on Friday, with the Mini later in November. In fact... here you go. Pricing and release info after the product summary. Either they got that wrong or Apple accidentally left us off the press release.

Thanks for that - I'm happy with those release dates (if true) as I'm looking at the Air - 7" is just too limiting, considering this is to be a tablet used by all the family (ranging from the 2-year-old), and in many cases to act as a laptop substitute. Also, as per the comments re non-upgradability, I'm going with a 64GB model, as I don't want to run out of space any time soon.

mattwnz: The price increase doesn't make sense considering how strong the NZ dollar is. If anything, I would have expected the price to have gone down a bit.

While a $20 price increase is certainly not what anyone would seek, it's the decision to keep the iPad 2 at the same price that confounds me, given it's now 18 months old (this must be an unusual occurrence for a tech product).

There was an interesting article in today's Dom Post claiming iPads are now way over-priced (especially the Mini) when compared to contemporary Android devices (and as compared to earlier releases). It pointed out that iPad sales have dropped compared to figures a year prior, raising further questions about the pricing strategy.

Interestingly, received a press release from Vodafone Australia today:

It is really amazing that they are still selling the ipad 2, and pressume they will keep selling it for the next year too. I still have one, and it performs well, but it is old in terms of it's age. I think the only reason they still have it is becuase of the ipad mini, which is basically the same hardware spec. But the ipad2 is I think the only device they still sell that has the old dock connector. I would have thought they would have just kept the ipad 4 going instead. People who have an ipad2 have had pretty good value for money in terms of how long it is being supported for. My old ipod ceased getting ios support after less than a year after purchase.

We have an iPad 2, but its starting to become a wee bit unstable, with my wife often complaining that apps are crashing on her, dumping her back out to the desktop.

So, in a complete 180, I'll be purchasing a new iPad Air as soon as we can get one. We only got the iPad 2 after winning it in a competition. We didn't think we'd have that much use for a tablet, so couldn't justify purchasing one (and I certainly couldn't convincingly sell the idea to my wife). But my wife has become quite addicted to the little fella now. :-)

I've been using the iPad mini but every time I pick up the iPad 2 at home (which the kids stole off me) I get envious of the extra screen size. However I find it too heavy. Now Apple have achieved the large size and lower weight I will be getting an iPad Air. Man they know how to push gadgets.

Well, we won't be getting it today, but will be able to order it in five days (5 November) isn't too bad - see here.

I'm just happy it's available now, so will wait around for a good deal over the next month or so (though I may be waiting a while).

I'm wondering the same thing. Also wondering if the wording means it will be available as a pre-order then, or they'll actually be available to ship (stock levels permitting, of course). To me the phrase "Available online on 5th November" should mean they will ship then, but you never know.

I called a few places and the only ones with a solid date were YooBee, midnight launch for the 5th but told to keep checking the website.
