littleheaven: Oh, disappointing. I read in the NBR that the Air would be available on Friday, with the Mini later in November. In fact... here you go. Pricing and release info after the product summary. Either they got that wrong or Apple accidentally left us off the press release.
Edited to fix hyperlink.
mattwnz: The price increase doesn't make sense considering how strong the NZ dollar is. If anything, I would have expected the price to have gone down a bit.
Vodafone [AUSTRALIA] to offer iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display in November
iPad Air available coming Friday 8am, 1st November
Wednesday, 30 October 2013 - Vodafone today announced that it will offer iPad Air with Wi-Fi + Cellular in Australia on Friday 1 November and iPad mini with Retina display with Wi-Fi + Cellular later in November. Vodafone will offer these new iPads with a range of attractive data plans that will allow customers to connect to its fast 4G network.
iPad Air features a stunning 9.7-inch Retina display in a new thinner and lighter design. Precision-engineered to weigh just one pound, iPad Air is 20 percent thinner and 28 percent lighter than the fourth generation iPad, and with a narrower bezel the borders of iPad Air are dramatically thinner—making content even more immersive. iPad mini with Retina display brings all the pixels from the 9.7-inch iPad to its 7.9-inch screen, delivering razor sharp text and detail in the same amazingly thin and light design. The new iPads feature the powerful and power-efficient Apple-designed A7 chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture, ultrafast wireless with faster built-in Wi-Fi and expanded LTE cellular connectivity, and the newly-designed iOS 7 featuring hundreds of great new features.
Customers can buy iPad Air at all Vodafone [AUSTRALIA] stores beginning Friday, 1 November at 8am or online,www.vodafone.com.au/air. The iPad Air 16GB is available from $49 per month on a 24 month plan with 2.5GB.

Thanks for that - I'm happy with those release dates (if true) as I'm looking at the Air - 7" is just too limiting, considering this is to be a tablet used by all the family (ranging from the 2-year-old), and in many cases to act as a laptop substitute. Also, as per the comments re non-upgradability, I'm going with a 64GB model, as I don't want to run out of space any time soon.mattwnz: The price increase doesn't make sense considering how strong the NZ dollar is. While a $20 price increase is certainly not what anyone would seek, it's the decision to keep the iPad 2 at the same price that confounds me, given it's now 18 months old (this must be an unusual occurrence for a tech product).
There was an interesting article in today's Dom Post claiming iPads are now way over-priced (especially the Mini) when compared to contemporary Android devices (and as compared to earlier releases). It pointed out that iPad sales have dropped compared to figures a year prior, raising further questions about the pricing strategy.
mattwnz:
It is really amazing that they are still selling the ipad 2, and pressume they will keep selling it for the next year too. I still have one, and it performs well, but it is old in terms of it's age.
myopinion: Apple NZ site now says iPad Air available to buy from November 5th. Wonder if any shops will have it before then?
