Tzoi: Reading through the thread, you rang Apple and they sent out a box for you to send it to them in? Approximately how long did it take to get it back? I don't think my sister will be bothered doing it this way because being a 20-yo girl she always is on her phone and I don't think she could bear to be without it for longer than a day!

i think they said about 10 working days it takes to send in your phone and returning it to you

Hi all,

Reviving this slumbering topic...

My brother in law today mentioned having this issue with his near 3 year old iPhone 5 and I referenced the replacement program.

The online serial number check confirms that His phone is indeed eligible but my question is: given that Apple seem to tend towards replacing phones exhibiting this issue with refurbished or even new handsets in some cases and, given the discontinuance of the iPhone 5, what is the likely course of action going to be to resolve his fault?

Appreciate whatever insight any of you learned geeks may have to offer - @cyaboy, I'm looking at you... ;)

The wife has one of the affected models and I was wondering what action would be taken also?

Yup it would be a whole unit replacement.
The replacement unit would have a 90 day warranty, unless the original unit still has longer than that left of it's warranty, then the replacement unit will have that.
It would also be the exact same colour and size of the faulty one being sent back to Apple.

We haven't actually had any of these come in to us yet, but then we've only been an Apple Authorised Service Provider for a few months.

We have done a heap of the iPhone 5 battery replacement program units, but that is just a battery swap not a whole unit replacement.

If you have a service provider in your area go and see them otherwise call Apple on 00800 7666 7666 and they can organise the replacement.

Firstly CYaBro, apologies for my typo on your name, it was genuine fat fingers... Your name will go down in legend among my family... ;)

Second, thanks as always for your most excellent assistance, advice and info.

So presumably still a replacement 5 model though and not s 5C or other?

Yes it will be an iPhone 5.
You still have the option to buy a replacement unit for an iPhone 4 if you want. :)
