I'm waiting for actual reviews, which seem to be taking ages to appear, of the Air.

On paper it looks good but I'm just not sure the processor has chops enough for Photoshop, Lightroom etc. So I want to read some reviews first as it's not much cheaper than a MBP now.

If I were in your position I would just go for the MBP. Is there any particular reason why you're favouring the Air?

I ordered a 256 iPad Pro 11” direct from Apple within the first couple of hours last Wed morning and allegedly it’s due to be delivered this Wednesday. Does anyone know where they are shipped from? Have not yet received the confirmation that it’s on its way.

I ordered the Apple iPad Smart Folio case/cover last Fri and it arrived here (Auckland) today from Sydney.

If the iPad is coming from Sydney, it’s now unlikely to be here Wed. However if it’s coming from within NZ, I guess it might get here Wed.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

There is still hope for you..... If it ships out of Sydney next day NZ is very possible....

I ordered an iphone cover from Apple on a Monday night, it shipped out of Sydney on Tuesday evening, and was at my door by 11am Wednesday.... pretty impressive for free shipping....

My experience with the 15+ things I've ordered from Apple is that they ship out from NSW around 4-8pm the night before they arrive at my office in Auckland.

So I wouldn't give up hope until after 9pm tomorrow (Tuesday) night!

Thanks - that could well be right. The case/cover was ordered via Apple but appears to have come from a third party. The iPad I guess is more likely to come from Apple itself. Dunno - maybe they just use a fulfilment/logistics agent.

Handsomedan:

I find it odd that they have removed the SD Card slot on the Mac Mini.

Surely, for photogs etc you'd want one there, rather than mucking about with cables or what-have-you?

I think one can buy a USB-c to sd card adaptor. But I think it gives the ability to add a multi sd card adaptor bas well.

I'll probably get the Mac Mini with i7, 512gb ssd and 8gb ram (and purchase additional ram at a reasonable price). This will likely replace my gaming PC I never use, other than it's one of the few lan connected devices I use for downloading things. As the MBP is my primary device I find Windows 10 horrible to use.

Already got an iPad pro, it'll never be a laptop replacement for my MBP. I tried when my MBP was in for repair and the multitasking experience is horrible.

I looked at them and they look nice, but when I compared it to an Intel NUC 8, the pricing doesn’t work for me. Especially when adding the options.

Then you have to buy Windows 10, potentially, or run Linux

My preference is Mac OS

Saves $500 or so depending on spec and it weighs a bit less and looks good. Apart from that, you are probably correct. I think Apple ought to have had a quad core chip option. You may have only got 10 hours instead of 12 from the battery but so what? I suppose they figured they would cannibalise MBP sales if they did that!

I have been amazed by the number of 'hands on reviews' (ie not reviews at all really) in which they say things like "It's expensive compared to the HP/Lenovo/Dell XYZ3123"

Yes but...NONE OF THOSE ARE MACS!!! THEY DON"T RUN MAC OS!

The Air is not designed to be a photoshop workhorse. Thats what the Pro line is for.  It's an ultra low power processor, it doesn't even have a fan. I'd get the right tool for the job personally.

I use windows 10 mainly and when I need to either a shell or one of the Linux distro’s available from the Windows store (they run as a VM).

I wanted a mini for IOS development and for some video editing, but just cant justify the price.
